Not 100% accurate. While there were a couple of trans people that were granted a legal gender change, the earliest in 1959 even, it was exceedingly difficult to get (even when you got through all the medical gatekeeping and conversion therapy attempts). The proper law was introduced later, in 1976.
But at what cost?
