Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

MODERATORS

Itt people angrily downvoting and building head canon of me of why I don't find them clever for pointing out the obvious.

A proper unpopular opinion!

just explaining why i'm downvoting

its more like commenting "not funny"

ai slop is garbage, keep it to its designated recepticle and nobody complains

[–] whaleross@lemmy.world -5 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Indeed it is but I'm not talking about the AI Slop. I'm talking about the people that feel the need to drop that two words oneliner that does nothing and serves no other purpose than to announce that the commenter was able to spot a generated image regardless the context. Most often it is more than obvious for anybody that cares. Hence, it is the new "fake!"

I think it's necessary to point out

AI training is just theft from artists, it's a one sided relationship where AI companies get everything and artists lose their job

this is why any use of AI should be punished

Is anybody reading what I'm writing even when explaining what I am talking about or are they just slopping out what they had their mind angrily preset to from reading the post title?

I swear, this sub should be called circlejerk.

But to respond to your comment. I know. Everybody knows. Ok not everybody on Facebook and X and irl... But everybody on internet nerds community Lemmy knows. Sure sure maybe not that outlier one digit percent that always exist, but will you really reach them to an understanding on a complex topic by spamming "AI Slop!"? And if they are so easily swayed, does it really matter when they will think something entirely different by the end of the week?

Slop is slop. Whatever form it takes. Consuming it is for pigs

Comedy skits don't pretend to be true though. That's a big difference.

I agree. Both are correct.

Sounds like someone is bad at noticing AI slop...

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

More than likely they just think AI is actually cool, despite it being absolute fucking garbage.

Ehhh, I'm torn on the vote for this

On One hand, it is unpopular, in that nobody really thinks this. It's also unpopular because I think most people, if not damn near everyone, would think it's stupid and reject it entirely based on the obvious flaws in the comparison even if they didn't disagree.

However, the post looks like rage bait, and you complained about voting, then you veer into mild nastiness. Which makes it likely the post was rage bait.

If you hadn't edited in the crap, I'd have up voted because the original post was a perfect fit for the C/. But, dude, that edit is just lame. So I had to down vote.

You make a post in a community like this, you take the votes as they come. You don't whine about them, and you don't turn it into some kind of ego weirdness.

[–] whaleross@lemmy.world -1 points 7 hours ago

My dude, really. I couldn't care less about internet points that you explain how you're carefully deciding who is deserving. Seriously. Nobody should.

This was a casual reflection that amused me and then came the next one that I added as an edit.

Though I admit it was my mistake to get invested for a moment and try to explain and make people understand my point. That was quite silly and pointless. Social media is what it is.

Your unpopular opinion is that users commenting nothing but "ai slop" on slop ai posts is counterproductive to the discussion, as it provides nothing of value.

I'd argue that posting ai slop in and of itself provides nothing of value. There is nothing of value in generative ai. People are going to comment on it, because it's bad. Get over it, I guess.

[–] whaleross@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

That people are repeating the production of comment slop that existed before and will exist ever after.
