I love the villains in that. They really look the part. And Ron Silver is a perfect right-wing slimeball. In fact - it has a shockingly good cast for a schlocky (but good) sci-fi action movie.

80’s/90’s karate run lately

I don't know anything about martial arts movies but I really like a lot of 80’s/90’s movies. I don't know if you're interested - but I recommend these from that time period.

  • American Werewolf in London (1981)
  • Misery (1990)
  • Moonstruck (1987)
  • Passenger 57 (1992)
  • Starship Troopers (1997)
  • The Thing (1982)
  • Total Recall (1990)
  • Tremors (1990)
  • WarGames (1983)

Everything on that list I've watched for the nth time this year or last year. I didn't want to mention anything entirely obvious but if you haven't seen "Starship Troopers", "The Thing", and "Total Recall" - you should.

"Passenger 57" is one of my favorite action movies ever. Wesley Snipes plays the hero so it has some martial arts vibe. Bruce Payne plays the villain and he nails his role. I hate romantic comedies but "Moonstruck" is awesome. It's old enough that it came out before the terrible formulaic, moronic "romcoms" were the norm. And it stars Cher and Nicolas Cage. I don't think Hollywood is capable of making movies like "Tremors" and "WarGames" anymore.

It’s amazing watching timecop in 2025 where in the first 10 mins of the movie they mention that there’s a white suprematist party. But yea the movie is great all around and agreed on the villains, spot on.

Have seen many of those but i dont think ive seen passenger 57!

a white suprematist party.

That gave me a chill last year when I watched it. When the movie came out - the average viewer must have thought that was impossible. But next month the GOP justices could kill or effectively kill birthright citizenship. And then we are on a speedrun to fascism because that kills due process. The police or ICE could arrest anybody at anytime. And the victim would basically have no rights.

passenger 57

It's a excellent but dumb action movie. Payne is hammy and over the top but that's perfect. And now that I'm thinking about - it has a great cast.
