Two breatho stops already in less than two hours. The second one in Milawa was absolutely massive. At least 25 coppers.

Did anyone else take a look at the sky and wonder if Sunday's promised rain was going to arrive a bit early? Rain on Sunday now at 90% chance.

Digging noises next door. Power goes out. Silence...

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

lol, I was going to dig a hole to try and find a leak today next to some pipes, but realised getting anyone in to fix my very likely fuck up... decided against it.

Why do I have to be up so early on a public holiday. I mean, I did go to sleep very early too but I was angling for a nice long sleep-in... especially because of the very sexy dreams I just woke up from :(

Cleaned out the garage, no sign of dead rodent. I’m guessing it’s somewhere above the ceiling and below the roof and the smell is coming through. Or possibly inside where the roller door spins. So just have to wait it out. Kinda concerning, I hope this isn’t a start of a bigger problem. On the bright side, garage is now clean and tidy!

It has been confirmed - I didn't get the preferred house. After looking at the alternatives available and thinking a bit more about options the house I've been approved for is growing on me. I think my uncertainty about it comes from two things:

  1. I'm filling in the gaps that I can't see with worst case scenarios instead of what's likely, and extrapolating a few things into problems that are unlikely. Particularly concern about overgrown trees - where I am now I have a small garden with trees in the neighbouring yards that grow over and block most of my useable garden space. In this house there are big trees, but they are already mature and there is space for a vegie garden between them. They are also deciduous trees, so I should get lovely shade in summer, light in winter and lots of leaf mulch for the garden.

  2. The layout of the house means some changes to how I set up my rooms, I can't just mentally swap the rooms I have now into the new house. But when I sit down and think about how to work with the different layout it should work pretty well. I might end up changing the layout from winter to summer - it has a great dining/lounge room with a north facing bay window that will be amazing in summer, and a south facing lounge that should be much cooler in summer. Being migratory depending on weather seems a good option.

One big upside is that it is in the lower end of my budgeted rent range. I should also be able to do a dog door for Mr Woof - there is a window to floor level in the main bedroom which opens onto the back garden, I should be able to get a door put into that and replace it with normal glass when I leave. Doing that with a small window should not be much more than a good quality sliding door insert would be.

The biggest unanswered question: where to put Miss Meow's litter trays. Do they need to be at ground level, or are cat's happy to jump up on a bench for that? I'll have to do some research, I could put a cover over the bath (which I don't use) and put the trays on there.

It's so hard to know, right? For me, if it "feels" like it could be a happy space when I am in it - that counts for a lot. And light - sounds like you have that. And air flow (though my current place has windows only on one side and I cope). Deciduous trees sound nice. Is there a dishwasher or a double sink? That's handy. Is it clean and look in good repair? Can you secure the doors/windows well? I have found you can live with things if it's basically ok.

You could ask for a second viewing too. Just to confirm it's gonna be ok. Good luck.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

A double sink, but unfortunately no dishwasher. The windows are the wind out type that are not great for airflow, but it has evaporative cooling, which should be great as long as it is not humid, and hopefully my portable aircon will be enough to get me through humid spells.

I've got a viewing booked on Thursday so will be able to make a final decision then.

I've been taking advantage of the windy hot weather to tackle Mt Washmore. I've also just made a Bolognese. What else did I do today? Oh yeah I learnt to play Ludo, which turns out to be Miniest's favourite game. I can see why, I have to admit I kind of liked it. I'll have to have another match this evening after dinner.

I've been pescatarian for many years but something about Good Friday messaging just makes the contrarian and the atheist in me want a steak. I'm going with tofu, but I did think about it.

This is even worse. Trying to follow guides to pause syncing of OneDrive and nothing is as the guide said. So I poked around more and I now have the choice of pausing it for up to 24 hours or unlinking it completely.

At this point I feel like Microsoft is expensive spyware but I don’t have the energy to jump through all the hoops to control it or make the switch πŸ˜”

Also In regards to co pilot, you can go into apps>installed apps and go down to Microsoft 365 copilot

From there you can disable the background running of it and turn off the runs at log-in option.

I still haven’t been able to get the donations down but packed them into boxes. I’m hoping to shift those next week and get some space back. Melbcat got stressed out by the activity so I stopped and we’re doing phone in bed. Cuddles are required to relax.

One load of washing is done and I’m doing another. Then there’ll be another basket of folding to do on top of the one already there πŸ˜‘ The chances aren’t great today.

Doesn't seem the helicopter is going away before dawn. Not sure what they think it's helping.

I treated myself yesterday to a red Shiraz, a cheapie from Aldi, I think it was about 4 bucks.

Had a glass or two last night, surprisingly it was pretty tasty and no sharp pang afterwards, my preference is a smooth red usually.

For 4 or 5 bucks a bottle it turned out better than I thought.
