Freetube is great for regular video playback but isn't a great music player, and it's not super stable on android for me. None of the YouTube music apps like outertune have video. Meanwhile some way to keep everything organized from my multiple music sources would be cool too.

It's also available as flatpak.

It's been years, so I will again.

For music, I prefer a specifically music-oriented client, Outertune.

If you have an idea of what you want to listen to ahead of time you could make a playlist and use yt-dlp to download it all. Then play it in the music player of your choice.

Grayjay

(you can even sync your "account" between android and linux)

For android, try out Metrolist, found using f-droid with IzzyOnDroid repos added. On Linux, I use FreeTube for videos/subscriptions on both Linux and android. AudioTube on Linux for music from Youtube.

Three good suggestions

  • GrayJay
  • Invidious
  • yt-dlp (works in Termux)

@jared There is limited possibilites :

For Android
- Grayjay wich is a content creator curator, not only a youtube client
- Newpipe / Tubular with sponsor block and more
- Youtube Vanced / Revanced wich is a modified youtube client with many fonctionnalities (it's works with youtube music too)

If you don't mind about video and more with music you can go for Spotube and similar app, wich is an app that work like spotify but with youtube sources (ni video).

For Linux

- Freetube a front-end client, with ad and sponsor block. I use this one everyday.

And, for finish, if you want to totally ditch google, you can try alternative like PeerTube, a french open source initiative, but I don't think that will work well for your specific need, music video.

Firefox or Ironfox with uBlock Origin? That's how I use Youtube on mobile.

I'm trying to keep from signing in as much as possible and keep track of everything. But I resort to browsers when I have to.
