Everything about this makes sense except for "dinner time." There are 0% of cats who will not start reaching a paw up to snag something.

The first thing I thought of was monkey brains...

It wasn't exactly on my Lemmy bingo card for the week, either! 😬

I've met a few cats who are mostly polite and don't really touch human food even if they really want to, but in exchange they also get a few plain scraps

[–] PhilipTheBucket@ponder.cat 3 points 1 month ago

I used to do this with my gf. The humans got the human food, the animals got the animal food, but then after human dinner the animals got some leftovers and scraps from human dinner. It seemed like it worked for everyone involved. The animals didn't have to feel like second class citizens because the humans were being dicks and hoarding all the good stuff, but also, there was a system so no one was coming up trying to jump the line and get human food when it wasn't authorized.

IDK, maybe that makes us sound like overly soft animal parents but the system worked for us.

An excellent position for them to swipe at the food on your plate. Or to roll a meatball their direction and pretend its hungry hungry hippos.

That's how they trained the monkeys in the Temple of Doom to hold still.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

That implies a cat will ever go where intended.

Did my once cat sleep in their kitty bed? Nope, they're snoozing in the sock drawer or the big dog's bed.

Is this a new Faces of Death?

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

The monkey scene was my immediate first thought. I haven’t seen that movie in ~30 years. Crazy how that seared into the ol’ melon.

Exactly what I thought of

My partners grandma cat ate at the table with the humans. She probably would have loved this kind of stuff.

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 month ago

Adorable, but honestly a terrible idea. I prefer to keep the cat away from the table as much as I can.

[–] sfled@lemm.ee 3 points 1 month ago

"luk, hoomans has gives us a food hatch!"

[–] Pnut@lemm.ee 3 points 1 month ago

"I'll try some of that"

Nooo don’t eat the neko-chan >~<

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

First, the cat would 100% climb up on the table from there. This would be okay for a gaming table, or a table specifically for playing with the cat, but not a dinner table.

I've never once fed my cat my food, from my plate or otherwise. He never begs for food when I'm eating. If you have this problem with your cat, it's your own damn fault.

[–] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

Sir this is a cute cat pic meme

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

You could easily make the hole smaller, or adjustable even.
