I need a microwave that emits a continuous tone until I empty it…

[–] sirimeow@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (3 children)

I've got misophonia and this sounds like hell. My microwave beeps 6 times, which is 5 too many in my opinion. But hey at least it makes me rush to the microwave and open it asap to shut it up.

Edit: actually, lately I've just been standing by it waiting instead of doing other stuff. I hate forgetting about it and then getting severe discomfort from the beeps.

Get one that only does one little bell ding

Anecdote: A friend of mine has a fridge that makes a two tone beep every time you open/close the darn thing. I would go insane.

My old one did and recently had to replace it. Didn't know this one would beep so much and I can't justify replacing a new microwave just because it beeps too many times.

That fridge sounds horrible and I probably would end up replacing that, or at least try everything I could to disable the beeps lol

Have had this issue as well, just find the speakers and poke a few holes through them, destroying as much as you can, or cut the wires connecting them if you can reach it. If you go the destruction route, make sure to properly destroy the membrane though, otherwise it might make annoying buzzing sounds instead.

[–] sirimeow@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

I might actually do that. I don't think there's any reason I need to have sounds tbh. But I'll have a look for some settings first in case I can just turn it off.

[–] Ghoelian@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 weeks ago

This only applies if you're sure you don't want any sounds, of course.

My microwave when done: beep. beep. beep. beep. beep.

My microwave stopped one second early to head off the unnecessary beeps: BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!

Mine then sits there with the timer at 00:01 until I press the Stop/Reset button yet again, like some sort of animal.

[–] AlligatorBlizzard@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There's a way to shut off the beeping entirely on most microwaves, but then forgetting your food is much more likely.

[–] sirimeow@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

I've tried to find the setting for it, need to look more. But forgetting food in the microwave isn't the end of the world, not like forgetting something in an oven that's still on

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

My microwave does that... in online chats my friends heard the beeping through my microphone, and still have had to remind me to take it out before too.

[–] Ghoelian@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 weeks ago

Mine beeps 4 times, then once every 30 seconds or something until I open it. Super useful feature for me.

On the other hand, my dishwasher does not make any sound when it's done, so I don't think I've ever let the dishes dry properly.

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 22 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I got into the unfortunate habit of clicking away my timer without actually getting up to do whatever it was supposed to be reminding me of. Always telling myself that I'll just finish whatever I was doing right then.

OMG thank you!

Pulled the drink out of the freezer just in time, thanks to this post. You know, when it's at that stage where it turns into a slushie right before it freezes over. Just 10 minutes later and it would have been too late.

Thanks again.

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Glad to be of some service lmao

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

While we're on the subject; if you use a common-area laundry, the app notifications are unreliable. Set your own timer so you won't accidentally be that asshole whose laundry is sitting in the machine hours later. I will move it, but I'd rather not have to.

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

but set your timer to like 10min more than the washing machine tells you, because that thing is going to be at 00:00 for an extra 15min

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 weeks ago

But set it short for the dryer because it will stop early and you want the laundry still toasty warm for your cat

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

if i don't intend to forget about a thing, i do not put the thing in a place i can't see it. yes my flat is a bit of a mess because of that, and so is my desktop, but hey, it works for me

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I knew where everything was until my gf organized it. Everything in its ~~place~~ pile.

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

ah a fellow user of the SHAPE organisation method (Stacks Heaps And Piles Everywhere)

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 3 points 3 weeks ago

My girlfriend is autistic so everything always needs to be perfectly organized. We fight about this all the time cause I can never find anything thanks to her. Drives me crazy.

[–] FoolishAchilles@lemm.ee 12 points 3 weeks ago

Shiver me timers

[–] zod000@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 weeks ago

I'm in this picture and I do not like it one bit.

[–] yumpsuit@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Put a *damp paper towel around the beverage and chill it in the coldest spot of the fridge with enough space for airflow.

[–] CucumberFetish@lemm.ee 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This is not that great of an idea unless you have a fridge that actively dries itself from the inside.

[–] yumpsuit@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, I should have been more specific, thank you. Moist is plenty, with a plate under it.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago

I gave up on that years ago .... no amount of logical thinking or attention ever made me capable of achieving that task

[–] idunnololz@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

At this point i think ive just accepted the fact that i have all of the minor symptoms of ADHD without the major ones (eg. Inability to focus).

[–] Tronn4@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

And it's made out of glass
