A far less gross episode than the one where they made candles from earwax.

If this is real and setting aside the steaming pile that is the Cybertruck... The effort required to polish that much stainless steel to that level of finish is astounding.

Poor taste but amazing execution!

I doubt it's polished. It's probably a mirror wrap. Much cheaper and less effort.

[–] JayleneSlide@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

Ah, yeah, that makes way more sense. TIL mirror wrap is a thing.

There's a company that does mirror polishes of them. I remember seeing a clip from some car show. They'd done a dozen or something, and it was mainly a guy just sitting there using an angle grinder and a big buffer/polishing wheel.

Was going to mention this as well. There's definitely companies out there who do exactly this sort of mirror polish on cybertrucks.

Which means this roadside hazard can be fixed with sandpaper

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago

Part of the repair instructors of the original Delorean was to use a specific Scotchbrite/brillo type pad to reapply the texture after buffing.

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee 4 points 4 days ago

People definitely have polished one of these to a mirror shine though. It looked awesome.

I would totally drive into that thing and claim I was blinded by the sun. It's so fucking illegal.

[–] match@pawb.social 2 points 3 days ago

Crash into it on an e-scooter and total it

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

saw a turd brown one in seattle today. at least it didn't glare.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.ml 18 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Can that legally drive tho?

[–] xor@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 4 days ago

according to my research: no, you can’t have anything more reflective than a normal window, except specific colored reflectors in particular spots and regular car mirrors.
state laws vary though…
i was looking into mirrored windows and no, not allowed.

I thought someone tried this with a delorean a while back and it was illegal.

[–] Jimmycakes@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Probably a cops car

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 11 points 4 days ago

I like it.

You can look yourself in the eye as you approach and think 'why am I going anywhere near this comedy fall-apart clown death car?'

This is some fucked up Wile e coyote shit

[–] NotAGamer@lemmy.org 9 points 4 days ago

The shiniest dumpster.

[–] KulunkelBoom@lemm.ee 4 points 4 days ago

Now they're obnoxious AND they glare.

[–] Hjalamanger@feddit.nu 5 points 4 days ago
