Apparently Israel has the right to defend itself. I wonder if Iran has that same right as well?

[โ€“] Maeve@kbin.earth 34 points 4 days ago (2 children)

It's mind boggling. Israel launches preemptive attack, "Israel has a right blah blah blah."

[โ€“] ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 23 points 4 days ago (1 children)

"Preemptive strike" too, lol.

[โ€“] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 7 points 4 days ago

self defense of you don't believe in causality

Seems like the rhetoric is that since Iran was building a nuclear weapon, it was justified as a defense. Now, if Iran had attacked Israel when it was developing its nuclear weapons, I wonder if that would have qualified as defense as well?

Iran was closer to the West than Israel at the time, and Israel's nuclear program was strongly opposed by everyone except France and the UK, so probably.

LOL of course not. They're brown.

USA, 2025.

Kinda shit meme that spurs on a misinformed perspective...

Tensions and clashes in the region are primarily sectarian differences (cultural, religious) rather than skin colour - and besides, most ethnic groups in the region (Arabs, Jews, Persians and others) are rather diverse when it comes to melanin.

[โ€“] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 8 points 4 days ago

the difference is that the "western whiter" state can do all the terror apartheid and genocide it wants, and the world and main stream media celebrate them.

but other non white states are treated like terrorist for responding to attacks

[โ€“] Saleh@feddit.org 2 points 3 days ago

"whiteness" is not just defined by skin color in the close sense, but also a state of mind and political affiliation.

What you say about the ethnicites is absolutely correct, however Israel is perceived as an extension of the "white" west vs. the "brown" inferior people.

Whoโ€™s that little tree flag?

[โ€“] Saleh@feddit.org 15 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Flags from Left to Right:

Israel
Iran
Palestine
Yemen
Syria (depending on device it might still show the flag from Assad times, the new flag is green white black with three red stars on white)
Lebanon

[โ€“] ladel@feddit.uk 2 points 4 days ago

Didn't know about Syria's flag change

[โ€“] cybervseas@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago

Lebanon I'm pretty sure

[โ€“] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 2 points 4 days ago

all flags need a little symbol.

death to boring tricolour flags

Iranians can sometimes be surprisingly pale while isrealis can sometimes be surprisingly dark, there are of course the mizrahi jews but the beta isreal population are straight up black. I don't think it's as much a race thing as it is a western aligned vs non-western aligned thing. Other western aligned countries like Taiwan also get overwhelmingly positive media coverage despite not being white. The fact that Iranians are Muslims also contribute a lot to their bad media image. Lots of isrealis could fit in with Iranians without any problem looks wise but absolutely not culture wise.

Imma be honest. Both sides are guilty in this. I just hate that we need to be roped into their shitty religious squabbles. I feel very sorry for the people, but the pragmatic in me tells me we should just let the region sort out their issues on their own and whatever happens happens. No matter which side you take youโ€™re supporting religious extremism and genocide.

[โ€“] PugJesus@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The correct answer to genocide is not "Let them genocide it out"

[โ€“] Plebcouncilman@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

How? Tell me how exactly that looks in practice? Do we bomb both of them to stop them? Do we ask them nicely? They are sovereign nations, this is in their power to do and I do not think we have a right to stop them.

[โ€“] tyler@programming.dev 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Currently the USA is literally funding Israel, so you know, we could stop that.

[โ€“] Plebcouncilman@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Is that not what I said myself?

[โ€“] tyler@programming.dev 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If you could point out in your responses where you said that Iโ€™d appreciate it

I forget the average person has terrible reading comprehension and needs things explicitly spelled out.

[โ€“] tyler@programming.dev 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You seem to have terrible writing skills, so pardon my reading comprehension. You literally wrote:

How? Tell me how exactly that looks in practice? Do we bomb both of them to stop them? Do we ask them nicely? They are sovereign nations, this is in their power to do and I do not think we have a right to stop them.

Which seems to imply that there is nothing we can do. Please explain how you stated anything implying that we should stop funding them.
