Image is of the damage caused by an Iranian Kheibar Shekan ballistic missile in Israel, causing dozens of injuries.

Now in our second week of the conflict, we have seen continuing damage to both Israel and Iran, as well as direct US intervention which nonetheless seems to have caused limited damage to Fordow and little damage to Iran's nuclear program. Regime change seems more elusive than ever, as even Iranians previously critical of the government now rally around it as they are attacked by two rabid imperialists at once. And Iran's government is tentatively considering a withdrawal, or at minimum a reconsideration, of their membership to the IAEA and the NPT. And, of course, the Strait of Hormuz is still a tool in their arsenal.

A day or so on from the strike on Fordow, we have so far seen basically no change in strategy from the Iranian military as they continue to strike Israel with small barrages of missiles. Military analysts argue furiously - is this a deliberate strategy of steady attrition on Israel, or indicative of immense material constraints on Iran? Are the hits by Israel on real targets, or are they decoys? Does Iran wish to develop a nuke, or are they still hesitating? Will Iran and Yemen strike at US warships and bases in response to the attack, or will they merely continue striking only Israel?

And perhaps most importantly - will this conflict end diplomatically due to a lack of appetite for an extended war (to wit: not a peace but a 20 year armistice) or with Israel forced into major concessions including an end to their genocide? Or even with a total military/societal collapse of either side?

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. The bars are almost empty (on a Friday night of all nights), and the pizza places full, near the Pentagon and White House at the moment, for those who care about tracking that. I know some people on here do use it as an indicator.

News is floating around that the snake Rafael Grossi said Iran is hiding nuclear material in Isfahan.

The truth is somewhat more bizarre and actually concerning. In an interview with "Fox News" a few days ago, the anchor says that he claimed Iran was hiding 900lbs of enriched uranium at "ancient site near Isfahan." Grossi does not deny saying it (I can't find evidence he ever did say it.) He replies that the IAEA doesnt know and can't be sure unless Iran allows IAEA observers into Iran.

Screenshot from the linked article.

It is noteworthy that this specific nazi news outlet used to employ the current US Secretary of Genocide Pete Hegseth who used to talk about "bombing Iranian cultural sites" on his show.

Anyways. Grossi gets plausible deniability while the US gets to threaten Iran that they will bomb the 800 year old Mosque outside Isfahan if the Islamic Republic doesnt allow IAEA spies into the country.

The idea of hiding uranium in a mosque is so laughably absurd but I guess 25 years of war on terror programming has prepared people to accept it.

Thankfully the Iranian government did officially ban cooperation with ~~Mossad~~ IAEA earlier this week.

Three recent events to do with Iran that I believe may be interlinked:

First, Iran has begun excavation operations at Isfahan, the underground nuclear site where only the entrances were targeted. No GBU-57 MOPs deployed here. They have opened one of these entrances today, visible on satellite imagery. It is no longer entombed. Iran may have transferred enriched uranium and centrifuges stored inside the facility, likely undamaged. Unless this movement has been co-ordinated with the United States for a potential handover of enriched material (I doubt this), this is an important development, as it could be considered a breach of the ceasefire.

The virtual US embassy in Iran has released a statement advising US citizens to leave Iran immediately while the airspace is open to commerical and civilian aircraft. Archive source to avoid data capture by a US government website

Event: As of June 26, 2025, Iranian airspace has been partially reopened, although commercial travel from Tehran and other major hubs may be disrupted. U.S. citizens should monitor local media and consult commercial airlines for more information on outbound flights from Iran. U.S. citizens planning to depart Iran should proceed by land to Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, or Turkmenistan, if conditions are safe.

Leave Iran immediately. Have a plan to leave Iran without relying on U.S. government assistance. If you cannot leave Iran, choose a safe place in your residence or another safe building. Take some food, water, medicine, and other essential items with you. Keep your cell phone charged and stay in touch with family and friends to keep them informed of your situation.

Another E-3 Sentry AWACS aircraft has been transferred to Saudi Arabia. Remember, there are still many US fighter aircraft (likely over 200) forward deployed to the Middle East, and the 4x B-52 Stratofortress bombers and 6x F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft have not left Diego Garcia.

Trump's tweet about Khamenei is likely not about him or his speech at all. I'd guess it's a signal to Iran given the developments at Isfahan. This is a developing and dynamic situation, if the US or Israel do believe Iran has excavated enriched uranium and intact centrifuges, without oversight by the USA, it could escalate fast. Again, could possibly based on these assumptions, not will.

Update: preliminary and unconfirmed reports of explosions or air defence activity in Tabriz, Malard, Eslamshahr, Karaj, and the Western parts of Tehran. Updating to say it's most likely over cautious air defence.

Video of said activity

Wonder if this is just the usual events since the beginning of the ceasefire (air defence firing as a precaution), or something else.

I wish they would have done this after dust has settled

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 3 points 15 hours ago

unless they have no uranium for a bomb outside of these facilities it's easy safer to leave them "destroyed" for now

[–] OnceUponATimeInWeHo@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I was waiting for a nothingburger conclusion, glad to hear this is meaningful

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 34 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

There's a lot of unknowns right now. Maybe Iran is extracting the enriched uranium for a handover to the USA, though that would shock even me, one of the more pessimistic people on Iran. Maybe they're doing it for their own purposes, to further nuclear development. Maybe nothing was extracted, who knows. But if you were Iran, you would transfer most of the enriched uranium to Isfahan before the strikes as it's your deepest underground facility. And you would do this to extract it, that's not a open top dump truck on the satellite imagery. This is the one card they can play right now.

Do the OSINT channels still think that Israel had air dominance over Iran or have you calmed down somewhat by this point

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 2 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

I do think the claims of "air dominance" or supremacy were out of context, in Marmite (and many others) defence.

Israeli jets were "dominant" when they wanted to be, but it wasnt worth the costs when it was clear they 1. couldn't kill more Iranian leadership beyond the first day and 2. couldn't disrupt nuclear sites without US support.

In Lebanon, they can just send a single F-16 and lob a bomb (guided or otherwise) at wherever they like. Hell, Hezbollah never succeeded in suppressing drones unlike in Yemen.

In Iran, they had an enemy with some air defenses, so they sent EW aircraft and multiple planes at once, or relied on standoff weapons more. Iran couldnt prevent this (and thus gave up air control), but they made the logistics of the campaign costlier.

Instead, Iranian AD picked its battles and HVTs stayed hunkered down. Even the suggestion of moving Uranium/centrifuges suggests the IRGC understood their AA situation.

Even Syria's much more outdated air defences forced a change in tactics, even if in the end Israel could precisely hit any target they wanted. It was just that the minimum bar for said targets was pushed higher thanks to the risks and costs to mitigate said risk.

[–] tastemyglaive@lemmy.ml 1 points 12 hours ago

They babysat cruise missiles and tried to stay out of Iranian airspace entirely. We can talk about how Iran needs a nuke and not to just let people walk ATGM parts across the border without obfuscating it

I can't imagine Iran is dumb enough to give anything to the US right now in exchange for anything else. I can't imagine why any country on earth would trust the US at all anymore.

The RAF had its flight training privatized, leading to what I think is fair to say is a total collapse of training capability.

The NAO investigation into the UK Military Flying Training System (UKMFTS) contract, which is let to a consortium backed in part by US arms multinational Lockheed Martin, thundered that the RAF was short of 330 pilots, while almost half of students entering the UKMFTS system last year failed to complete their intermediate training.

"In its worst year (2018-19), 49 students completed Phase 2, an 86 per cent shortfall against the [Ministry of Defence's] current aircrew requirements. In its best year (2015-16), 182 students completed Phase 2, a 21 per cent shortfall," said the NAO in its latest report.

Damningly, RAF fast jet pilots, the two-winged master race* who fly the service's Typhoon and F-35 fighters, were taking more than seven years to get from joining the Air Force to being declared ready for frontline duties.

[–] TommyBeans@hexbear.net 33 points 1 day ago

That’s true for the old shit too. When I was on the Nimitz I did maintenance on a portion of the propulsion system. Literally anything more than basic maintenance or simple parts swapping was going to be done by a shipyard dockworker. Despite having the tools and technical knowledge we weren’t allowed. That thing is cold war tech.

anybody have news on the members of Madleen? I remember reading that most of its members were deported, but I feel like that story was dropped and forgotten about before everyone was released. Is there any news on whether there are still members being held hostage by israel?

Today was the first time I thought of it in a few weeks

edit: As of ~ 1 week ago, everyone was free, as per Omar Faiad, who was part of the flotilla

[–] very_poggers_gay@hexbear.net 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Like ugh, I made myself mad thinking about all the progressive libs I know posting "All eyes on Madleen".

I fucking hate these "All eyes on ______" trends.

Before it was all eyes on Madleen, it was all eyes on AI generated Rafah, posted over 50 million times. Less than a year later, Rafah has been successfully ethnically cleansed and its buildings systematically destroyed.

It's never about the actual Palestinians who are still alive, who fight everyday to care for eachother and build community and resist the most vile and repulsive political project of our time. These trends feel like social media psyops. It's like they're reducing solidarity to its most asinine forms, reducing solidarity to something so pointless and thoughtless and easily discarded.

[–] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 29 points 1 day ago

The “all eyes on” phrase has its roots in anti-war activism and a call for more uncaring people to pay attention to a specific and urgent moment for once.

It’s been coopted and vulgarized like everything else, but it’s not a phrase you are supposed to say to your comrades. Like it’s not about all of us woke lefties collectively watching and bearing witness of an event. It’s intended to be used to speak to ignorant liberals, to “raise awareness” back when most Americans did not care about foreign policy at all.

I think we are well past the point of “raising awareness” in the US on the genocide. Everyone is aware and is entrenched into their positions. Now is the time for organized direct actions

trump-drenched : "Why would the so-called “Supreme Leader,” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, of the war torn Country of Iran, say so blatantly and foolishly that he won the War with Israel, when he knows his statement is a lie, it is not so. As a man of great faith, he is not supposed to lie. His Country was decimated, his three evil Nuclear Sites were OBLITERATED, and I knew EXACTLY where he was sheltered, and would not let Israel, or the U.S. Armed Forces, by far the Greatest and Most Powerful in the World, terminate his life. I SAVED HIM FROM A VERY UGLY AND IGNOMINIOUS DEATH, and he does not have to say, “THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP!” In fact, in the final act of the War, I demanded that Israel bring back a very large group of planes, which were heading directly to Tehran, looking for a big day, perhaps the final knockout! Tremendous damage would have ensued, and many Iranians would have been killed. It was going to be the biggest attack of the War, by far. During the last few days, I was working on the possible removal of sanctions, and other things, which would have given a much better chance to Iran at a full, fast, and complete recovery - The sanctions are BITING! But no, instead I get hit with a statement of anger, hatred, and disgust, and immediately dropped all work on sanction relief, and more. Iran has to get back into the World Order flow, or things will only get worse for them. They are always so angry, hostile, and unhappy, and look at what it has gotten them - A burned out, blown up Country, with no future, a decimated Military, a horrible Economy, and DEATH all around them. They have no hope, and it will only get worse! I wish the leadership of Iran would realize that you often get more with HONEY than you do with VINEGAR. PEACE!!!"

A spokesperson added: "Blaise's ancestry is characterised by conflict and division and, as is the case for many with eastern European heritage, only partially understood. "It is precisely this complex heritage which has contributed to her commitment to prevent conflict and protect the British public from modern threats from today's hostile states, as the next chief of MI6."

Being a Nazi while Eastern European is a complex question.

It is precisely this complex Nazism that makes her suitable for the role.
