misleading headline. They sabotaged goods from Israel, which is their right. Anything which hurts elbit sales is a legit target.
I support Ukraine, but Ukraine shouldn't be buying Elbit stuff.
A community for discussing events around the World
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Their right? Lmao
Country under literally biggest invasion of this century should do ethical shopping? Fuck me this is hilarious 😂
I know, hahah!
I see your racist and zionist viewpoint from your other comments, that wouldnt have anything to do with your response would it?
hahah!
So Ukraine should send those weapons back to Israel then? I thought sending weapons to Israel was bad?
Also what do you think Ukraine should fight the Russians with... activist slogans?
Not that I am condoning vandalism, but it sounds like OIP was targeted because they are a subsidiary of Israeli company Elbit Systems. So profits from this production for Ukraine would go partially to Israel.
That said company ownership is a complex matter (Canadians are grappling with a similar issue whether to boycot Canadian subsidiaries owned by American companies). This action does not do much to harm Israel, it does a lot to harm Ukraine, and to harm the Palestinian cause.
Yeah, I'm all for pro-Palestine activism; fully support this cause, and I have no moral objections to destroying some property to do it. Human lives are more important than inanimate objects. But I really wish they could have come up with a version of this plan that didn't involve fucking over Ukraine.
Unfortunately I suspect a lot of these people may be of the stripe of Leftist that treats anything relating to war - including arming the victims of unprovoked territorial aggression - as morally wrong, meaning they likely saw this as killing two birds with one stone.
I saw this item pass by on the local news the other day, including an interview with Versluys, and I don't recall any of them mentioning the exports bound for Ukraine. Looking at the article from a few days back, that doesn't mention it either. Just saying, there's a good chance the protesters did not intend to impact Ukraine.
Seems like that isn’t going to be particularly productive for anybody but russia?
I think most are proper activists, not russian saboteurs, but all it takes is one or two compromised people to misdirect their rage. Moral of the story, confirm what you are doing before you go on something like this, before looking like total idiots.
... according to Israeli genocide-supporting arms manufacturer.
OIP’s operations in Belgium have been focused primarily on Ukraine. The company specializes in maintenance, repair, and upgrades of military equipment. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion, OIP has supplied the Ukrainian army with about 260 armored vehicles.
Versluys emphasized that his company has not produced defense systems for Israel in over 20 years. He added that OIP does not even hold an export license to supply equipment to that country.
These facts can be easily verified and the very least you can do if you decide to go destroy stuff. This is not just an innocent protest anymore.
OIP is just a branch of Elbit, so yes 100% of profits go to a company fueling genocide. I don't see you dispute that.
OIP doesn't even claim that these protestors destroyed equipment destined for Ukraine (nor is there any corroborating evidence), only that it was delayed.
This sounds a lot less incriminating if you replace OIP with Eblit.
OIP, the Belgian subsidiary of Israeli weapons manufacturer Elbit Systems.
yes, very sad. Anyway.
Also kinda urelated but there's a weird point about the protesters being women because of behavior and how they wield the hammers, because women are girly and men are manly ig
