I started watching this on a whim.

The first episode was pretty much a run of the mill Brit Copganda slop but Kelly MacDonald and Kate Dickie kept me hanging on and the final sequences of E1 really hooked me.

I am two episodes into the show and it has been great. I am curious as to where it will go.

I highly recommend it, if you are looking for something to watch.

At least for me, the show stays strong and delivers. I enjoyed being immersed in the Scottish environs as well. Enjoyed Matthew Goode in a scruffier and messier character as well.

OMG he was in Downton Abbey. I totally did not recognize him with beard!

Yeah same—it was so weird because I expected him to be posh and clean shaven, not scraggly curmudgeon wearing a scratchy looking sweater. Good turn for him. Test of the cast is all excellent as well.

...and The Offer (which was great).

Great show, I need an Akram spinoff.

I went through the whole thing in a day, loved it and can't wait for season 2.

I force myself to only watch one episode a week for anything that I really like. This show took off for me in E2, so I am slowing it down.

I try and do that, unfortunately I started it ona sat night and had a lazy sunday :)

I liked it too! Hoping for a 2nd season.

Wait what, they made a TV show of these books? Crazy. If you want more, several of the audiobooks are narrated by Steven Pacey and are reaaaaally good.

I read the first couple and audibled the rest, can confirm they're solid.

That is good to know, because I am currently in a “book hole”. I have nothing to listen to during my commute.

Loved this series, it really picks up after ep 1 and takes off. The question is, will Netflix renew it for a season 2? No word yet.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 3 points 10 months ago

Yeah you always gotta hold your breath now.

It is a Netflix production, though? It isn’t made by the BBC etc?

Recently finished it, I really liked it but was hard for me to follow the plot, it feels like a spaghetti at first but it slowly unravels as the show progresses and it gets really better. Maybe it was because I don't have an very good English and the Scottish accent is a challenge for me even if I love it.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 3 points 10 months ago

The only accent I am struggling with is the chief cop. I am only two episodes in and I am loving it though.

I really liked the characters but was turned off by the horror-film stuff. Oh well.

I have only done the first two episodes. So I am not sure what the horror-flam stuff is.

Ahh! Thank you very much.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Yeah that and all the threatening dark-house-at-night texts and so on.

I'm halfway through it. I'm mostly liking it but it does suffer from almost everybody is an asshole. I get that that's intentional but it makes it hard to get invested.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 2 points 10 months ago

Yeah I really struggle with getting into the main character because of that, but he did turn for me when he had the panic attack in the second episode.

I am curious how the show will balance him being an asshole with making him relatable.
