those parts would make a great Linux gaming build

[–] ITeeTechMonkey@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Thats partially why I went with an all AMD build. I plan on installing Linux on a separate drive in the near future. I only plan on keeping Windows for the few online games that dont enable Linux support

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

My new PC only has Linux and I'm currently flying on maximum settings in Rocket League, God of War, Horizon: Forbidden West, 1440p, 240 Hz monitor.

I am only keeping Windows around because I have some Rocket League montage clips there I want to keep. Otherwise Windows would not be on my new PC. I just have yet to move that drive over to the new PC.

I also have an all-AMD build. 9950X3D + RX 9070 XT. It just flies. Please look forward to gaming exclusively on Linux! ❤️🎮🐧

I have never ran Bazzite. My last build ran Ubuntu (started with 18.04 LTS) and my laptop runs Fedora workstation.

We do all sound like a cult but seriously, give Bazzite a spin, I don't think you'll be disappointed!

[–] ITeeTechMonkey@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I dont see any harm in trying it out. This is literally just my gaming rig. I have a laptop running fedora that i use for coding, finances and the like.

bazzite is fedora based ;)

  • ASRock AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT

I see you bought the 16GB version, good choice.

[–] ITeeTechMonkey@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

The only other cards in the price range of the 9060 XT were 8gb 3060s! It made the choice really easy for me - plus I wanted an all AMD build.

Very cool build! That is such a cool case. If I built with it, it would be so covered with fingerprints though haha

I wore nitrile gloves the entire time i was building and setting it up, but that was mainly because i have overly sweaty hands.

It also helped all of the glass had a protective film too.

How much did this run you OP? I have pretty much the same setup but 3 gens ago

5600xt

Ryzen 5 3600

32g ram

B450 mboard

Cost me ~1000 USD at the time

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I had a very similar setup but just upgraded to a 5070 while keeping the rest the same (and overclocking the 3600) and still "bottlenecked" by the GPU the vast majority of the time. But also getting like 60fps native in cyperpunk at max settings 1440p (and well above 144fps with frame gen)

[–] ITeeTechMonkey@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (3 children)

This build cost me just shy of $1300 at Micro Center. You could find parts for cheaper elsewhere and change the storage, cooling, and case for more savings

I also bought the Challenger 9060 XT recently. It's really good, surprisingly quiet too compared to my previous GPU that would scream at 2500 rpm.

[–] ITeeTechMonkey@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Ya my 1070Ti was so freaking loud compared to this card. I have checked it a few times to make sure the fans are running 😅

The best part is it doesn't feel like a budget build!

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That's awesome! Enjoy it! ❤️

[–] ITeeTechMonkey@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Thanks, its hard to not just game all day, but I'm forcing myself to do the work around the house before i touch it.
