Today's mental therapy: Moving mulch.

Yesterday the resident magpie was having a fight w/ her (I presume) partner. Was pretty viscous, I've never seen that before. Today they're just wondering around together eating stuff from the lawn like nothing happened. Makes you wonder the sorts of things they fight about. Wasn't territory (they've been there together for years).

Went to the gemstone and lapidary club show and it was very interesting. Lots of stuff that I just wanted to touch because it was so polished and smooth. Lots of beautiful fossils and a gem faceting demonstration. It's a 2 day thing so I'm going back tomorrow because I've got a guy holding a lapis pendant for me (oops πŸ˜¬πŸ’Έ) and there was a piece of petrified wood that I really liked because it looked nice to hold in my hand and I hope it's still there. I bought an orthoceras pendant as well. I'd like something amber as well. Dammit there were so many things I wanted! I loved the opals and malachite as well.

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Careful with amber, dodgy people cook it to look better than it really is.

Post gym, I require an airing

[–] calhoon2005@aussie.zone 8 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (2 children)

Familycalhoon are getting a new microwave for the first time in about 20 years. I think they used to have just the one kind...

Also, first Parkrun in about 5 weeks.. Good to be back at it, but why did I pick one that had a hill on the way out and on the way back....

Helga's Mixed Grain bread "New & Improved" = 850g down to 800g. Fuck you personally, Helga.

Edit: White bread went from 750 to 700g too.

Edit 2: Also they are now in the "never goes on special" price category.

It is weird being awake at 5am though. I used to do this a couple of years before lockdown for gym before uni and work.

Still rather this and get the sleep and be in a good mood than stay in bed longer and feel like shit.

Edit: 9am I don’t know what to do with myself. I have very little motivation. Aaargh.

11:30am hour and a half PT session shortly. I will no doubt be ded

Just got off call with psychiatrist, who wants to start me on Ritalin and Clonidine. Here goes nothing, I guess. I am scared. He said to call the clinic if things don't go well.

Maybe I am just lazy, anxious and have a slight internet addiction that's holding me back.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

You’re also surrounded by highly critical people and I would think the things said to you would affect your confidence.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 7 months ago

I can't agree with this more

[–] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 6 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (2 children)

You’ve got nothing to lose by trying. Keep in mind with Ritalin it’ll take a week or so till you get the right rhythm for when to take the pill during the day.

ADHD/ADD is a neurochemical issue not behavioural. If you do have either, willpower won’t allow your brain to keep more dopamine available, or increase the amount in circulation.

You can't talk therapy or journal your way out of a neurochemical deficiency. Believe me, I've tried.

Medication can be scary, I know. But you may find that some of the behaviours you’re unhappy with may have a chemical reason.

For most of my adult life I thought that I was just inferior, stupid and lazy compared to other people because I couldn't focus long enough to do the things that seemed to come normally to other people.

But that wasn't the case. My brain worked differently and thankfully there was a way to equalise the playing field.

Couldn't focus long enough to read a book after age 16. I used to inhale books before then. Let alone fill out forms or understand taxes or superannuation.

Just something to keep in mind.

Good luck!

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 7 months ago

also totes agree with this

years ago when I was seeing a psychologist and a psychiatrist for severe ptsd the doc wanted to put me on meds that could help my memory and also anti anxiety meds. I said no. They said I better have a good reason, I wrote them an essay. But more than that I assured my docs I would under go all the cbt , do everything I could to heal without meds. And I did.

Changing your thinking is hard, behaviourial change is hard, but you must give it some effort if you want results.

I suppose my point is change can happen many ways, it's often uncomfortable, scary, and it takes effort

I used to keep my eye on the long term goals, my life would be better if I had better mental health and better habits, i still do

good luck and so many hugs 😽

Arrived in WA and seemingly brought shitty weather with me but because of the rain, it's quite warm! I dusted off my Switch after goodness knows how long and played The Gardens Between for most of the flight. Really cute local game though a bit overdone on the 80s nostalgia/Japan theming with the cutscenes... still very beautifully designed, ingenious puzzles - nothing too hard but they scratch your brain in just the right way that makes you feel like an ingenious kid again. So in that regard, top marks for really giving puzzles a feeling and a narrative.

Well, time to get myself out of this shed of a terminal and enjoy a nice meal and a good night's sleep. 😴

Alongside my normal market run, I have procured vanilla slice, a FREE book about my beloved Collingwood (having mates among the second hand book stalls has perks) and a lovely interaction with the prettiest puppy I have ever seen. Bernese mountain dogs are so rare in this country

Played DnD last night for the first time! It was pretty fun despite feeling like the stupidest person in the room. I might see if there's a weekly thing around or try some more one-shots :))

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 4 points 7 months ago

It takes time and practice!! I find the combat fun, but I suck at roleplaying lol! My fav character I made was a Kenku Sorcerer because I could just mimic the other players words πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Keep doing one shots and find a supportive group! A supportive and nice group makes it so much easier to engage! I'm so excited for you!!!

The front bedroom was getting quite warm with the sun so I opened the windows to let some air through. Apparently ants were starting a nest in the corner of one of the windows, and few spiders had taken up residence as well. Windows that fully swing open to the inside are not such a good thing in this situation. Full barrier spray has now been applied around both windows and the dead ants vacuumed up.

The day has mostly been good though. I had a nice walk with Mr Woof and have done the weekly cleaning including a change of bed sheets, which are now on the line drying with another load of washing. And tomorrow is predicted to be sunny too.

There's a food & wine "festival" happening next door to the hotel. We thought about checking it out until we realised we were paying $30ea before trying anything - didnt look like a tasting event but a BUY A COCKTAIL event. Now I'm just enjoying a solo dance party on the balcony while watching people basically need to be carried out...

I love a bacon cheeseburger. Who doesn’t ? but the amount of boring prep followed by REALLY fast cooking sends me into a psychotic frenzy. It almost never seems worth it. Almost…

Aw naur, I just had a 4 hour nap.

I'll blame the cat; he sat on me and fell asleep, so I did too πŸ˜‚

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 7 months ago (3 children)

I've never really managed to get the hang of naps. Falling asleep during the day just doesn't happen.

Since I got back from NZ I've been eating meals at my desk . It's not nice, I much prefer a table.
