In my case, I think I matter quite a bit to 6-7 people (family and a few close friends); and matter somewhat to maybe 6-7 more. I don't think anyone else would really care. And I've learnt to make my peace with it. I used to be the people-pleaser type, but I've been happier living on my own terms.

Honestly having a small circle is great. However, diversification minimizes risk. In having a small circle, you open yourself up to massive vulnerabilities and many would say it is not a sustainable business model.

That depends a great deal whether my dogs count as people and doesn't matter whether my cat does.
