Switched about a month ago, bought vitamin supplement and feeling great, was planning on going vegan for a long time. Thought it's made me feel depressed about the state of the world and guilty bout not doing it earlier because it's been so easy. I knew about the horrible way humans treat animals but before I guess I had some cognitive dissonance switch and now that it's gone I'm just feeling sad and powerless.

The number one regret of most vegans is not going vegan earlier; the important thing to focus on is what we can do from now on. It's pretty important to find a community to be a part of so you don't feel isolated.

I would encourage you to find a local organisation to join. I felt a bit sad and powerless as well when I first went vegan and wasn't really doing much. I can't tell you how much it helps to be a part of a group that's working towards shared goals.
You'll meet lots of lovely people who are active and willing to help you. Even if you feel intimidated by some forms of organisation/activism, there's always a way you can contribute.

It's also kinda crazy to realise just how prevalent animal products are, and even the vegan stuff is usually processed in the same facilities and has trace amounts, which speaks to the sheer volume.

I'm part of the local young greens, and most of my friends have similar politics to me but it now feels hollow when I hear people get all high and mighty about human rights and the environment and then happily go consuming dead animals (and this applies to me too until recently).

Most people hold inconsistent (and often contradictory) ideals. Ideals don't really mean much in the real world, least of all to actual victims of systemic oppression.

That's why we always advocate for getting organised in spaces that are effective and doing actual groundwork.
