We in Disturbed are all about unity, OK? We’re all about, no matter who you are, no matter what walk of life you walk, no matter where you come from, no matter how much money is in your pocket, you are welcome at these shows. You understand that?

But we're also about blowing you up if you live in the wrong place and are of the wrong culture. Everybody else, they're welcome to our shows. Unity man, for everybody. Except for the people I wanna kill.

Edit: or maybe he wants the dead children to come to his shows too, I dunno

Deathklok would sign Israeli artillery, but they'd also sign houthi rockets. And all the dead kids would be invited. Actual unity, not doublespeak. Oderous would call for unity by suggesting to bomb the white house and downing street, by comparison.

This topic was already touched on the show : https://dethklok.fandom.com/wiki/Doublebookedklok

I would read this as:

If you pay to come to their show, you're always welcome to be there.

Anywhere that's not one of their shows is separate and irrelevant to the point they're making.

I guess there are down with the sickness in Israel

[–] Jumbie@lemmy.zip 67 points 2 months ago (3 children)

What a fucking letdown.

Because of this guy and a few others like him, I’m more inclined to listen to dead musicians these days.

The chance of new scandals popping up is greatly reduced.

[–] BrokenGlepnir@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Chester Bennington still seems pretty cool. I hope Corey Tailor doesn't do anything bad soon.

I hope Corey Tailor doesn’t do anything bad soon.

From 2020:

“I think that’s what’s happened, we’ve seen too many people pushed off the cancel culture cliff who didn’t really deserve it, because of this all-or-nothing quote-unquote morality that the left has.

“It’s so fucking full of shit and so hypocritical that it’s going to bite them in the ass. It used to be that there was a real moral center, honestly to both sides, and now we’ve abandoned that for the extremes.”

https://tonedeaf.thebrag.com/corey-taylor-politics-cmft/

🤷

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Not a slipknot fan but that looks so much worse taken out of context. You're practically proving his overall point lol

He's saying the left will dogpile someone if they even say one thing they disagree with. Look at your comment...He's right. The purity tests on the left are infuriating.

He COULD be more vocal about his political opinions but he's a musician. I can't fathom how stressful it would be knowing you'll get attacked by fans and the media for any innocuous comment. If that happened to me, I'd just stop sharing my opinions publicly...Which is kind of what he did.

[–] dublet@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago (11 children)

Quite interesting that's your interpretation. I didn't include the whole article to sate your need for maximum context, but I did link it.

See, what I think is the problem with what he's saying is that he's been doing this "both sider"ism, which is nonsense. You don't need to think one side is with the angels and the others are devils, but to morally equate them is naive at best.

So it's interesting that the point you're picking up on is when he's talking about cancel culture, so a good question to ask here is "who do you think has been wrongly cancelled?", which sadly the interviews at the time don't much delve into.

I assume you don't listen to Rage Against The Machine because they're too political? Or Megadeth? Dead Kennedys? Pearl Jam? Bruce Springsteen? System of a Down? U2? There's a political dimension to most lyrics, even if you miss it.

“The Left”? You mean American liberals or like the actual left?

The added bonus is that you also know it isn't AI generated music.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The last Beatles song is heavily touched by AI, long since the death of John and George.

Thankfully I never did get into their music. He’s dead and we know his character, so no.

Dead doesn’t mean good. It just means he/the band can’t change his/their stance.

Did you burn all your LostProphet CDs?

Remember when he covered The Sound of Silence?

Kinda weird how someone can sing that song and completely miss the point of it.

[–] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 19 points 2 months ago

Conservatives and missing the point of their favourite songs; name a more iconic duo!

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Such a huge section of their music was anti-war and anti-fascism. It's like if RATM came out and endorsed Trump. This is the first celebrity let down I've ever personally experianced, normally I'm able to identify the shitheads well ahead of time.

What about "No More"???? Like, THEY wrote it and they performed it. What happened?

[Verse 1] Once again we hear them calling for war It doesn't matter what they're fighting for They light the match and watch the whole world burst into flame The story's always the same So tell me, people, are you ready to kill? Behold the propaganda, get your fill A distant enemy is threatening our freedom again How much would you like to spend?

[Pre-Chorus] Millions are falling in line And it's just a matter of time Endless destruction will ensure their pockets are lined For all time

[Chorus] No more defending the lies Behind the never-ending war

They count the money as the innocent continue to bleed

They paint a picture, and the whole damn world is deceived

I guess they also have other older songs like Immortalized and Indestructible which seem to be pro-war. I thought they had improved or something.

Today we feed on domination Secure a legacy that will never die Be immortalized

Show no mercy, let the world see We’re invincible

Every broken enemy will know That their opponent had to be invincible Take a last look around while you're alive I'm an indestructible master of war

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago (3 children)

The point of the song revolves around many people's inability to communicate.

I think you can understand the song and still be a piece of shit. For example, he understands the song and properly communicated to us all that he's a monster.

Bud, you fucking autographed bombs.

[–] nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org 8 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Maybe he doesn't know bombs are used specifically to kill large swaths of people.

like idk what he thought that was for?

This is not the same kind of participation as showing a little leg for the troops.

Maybe sign some food and medical aid delivery for different results. Doubt it will keep BB the moneychanger from sabotaging the supplies tho.

When people like this demand unity, they just mean agreement with their views.

[–] SaraTonin@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

Or they mean “okay, so I did something reprehensible. I’m not going to admit it so just shut up”.

[–] SacredHeartAttack@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago (5 children)

I just hope this all leads to never having to hear this bands garbage music ever again. I know they are popular, I never knew why.

[–] Jumbie@lemmy.zip 21 points 2 months ago (15 children)

I thought the band was fantastic and the music defined a few years of the metal scene.

We can hate the current bullshit without lying about the reality of the music itself.

He's a tool for genocide. That's why he sucks. I'm not a fan of the nu metal genre, so I don't care for their music, but the man is/was talented. His ability to add distortion to pitched vocals is what many metal vocalists strive for. Even if not trying to emulate his sound, he's got like perfect compression built into his diaphragm. He has a good voice. That's why people like(d) him.

But he uses it to protect genocide. So legitimately fuck him. Im glad AI will cannibalize his voice so anyone who wants to hear it won't need to give that asshole a dime.

[–] gary@piefed.world 4 points 2 months ago

They absolutely ruined the Sound of Silence for me

On Tuesday (October 14), the band responded once more, this time in person during their concert at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. Onstage, Draiman called for “unity”, adding, “The conflicts that are going on in this world don’t define us.”

Simping for a genocide is a weird choice for "unity" unless what you mean is exterminating everyone who you don't want unified...

Like, especially with religion this shit won't end. Islam, Judaism, and all the various Christian flavors all literally worship the same God, with essentially the same base rules.

They just follow different prophets.

If one of the big three Abrahamic religions "won" and was the last group standing, they'd just turn on themselves.

Like Protestants vs Catholics, Suni vs Shia Muslims, or Orthodox vs Modern Judaism.

If there's no large group with a big difference, the remaining group will fracture.

The biggest thing that pushed out of nu metal fandom when I was younger was learning that for every Serj Tankian there were four fucking goobers like Draiman spouting pretentious shit like "sex is just an exchange of energy" or unironically wearing Ayn Rand t shirts.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 4 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Even serj's drummer is trump fanboy simp.

Well, shit, I'll have to stop listening to Disturbed 10 years ago.

[–] treesquid@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

"Unity" never actually includes conservatives, it always means having better people accept them no matter how horrifically shitty they act, while they change absolutely nothing about their behavior. Fuck this loser and all his loser fans

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago

Come on guys, can't we all just unite and get down with the sickness together?

F that guy, one only ever liked 2 of their songs.

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 months ago (4 children)

I have no idea whats with isreal. It just draws in people who you thought had completely normal takes and were proper human beings and turns them into some disgusting thing. Same thing happened with infected mushroom for me. They are in a genre, psytrance, which is anti war and promotes peace. The genre was born from traumatized israelis fleeing to india and discovering the party scene there. Literally one of the founding members of infected mushroom is a veteran whos said before that the music lets him cope with his trauma. How can you be such a hypocrite? And once again same thing with disturbed. They perform a genre and a cover a lot of songs that are blatantly anti war and anti faschism.

David Draiman says he'll take your money no matter who you are, and will also always support genocidal cults.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 months ago

Yes, we are united against genocidal terrorism perpetrated by Israel.

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 months ago

What do you expect from the official band of BMX copper wire thieves?

[–] nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org 7 points 2 months ago

Actually the conflicts of this world and how we react are EXACTLY what define us as individuals in the course if our limited lifetimes? (quote from article)

Very airport jokes vibe. Like this guy hasn't touched the ground in a while. Waded right out of relevency and into the highcash hustle.

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Stupid fuck.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 4 points 2 months ago

Now is not the time for disagreement. We all need to unite behind our new tyrants.

[–] noxypaws@pawb.social 4 points 2 months ago
