It's going to be a miserable and weepy end to the week. Tomorrow we have to say goodbye to a very good boy, the bestest of good boys. He's 13yrs old, his hips have gone and he can barely stand now, he's got cataracts and pancreatitis. He's in constant pain and his legs can give out at random, and you hear him wince in pain every time he lays down. We've even had to start feeding him by hand as he's laying down. He's lost a lot of muscle mass over the last 6 months too, and we've tried everything the vets have suggested to make him comfortable and ease the pain. Pain killers, steroids, special food and so forth... But it's time to ease his suffering and we've been agonising over the decision for weeks now.

The vet is going to come to the house and do it, less stress for our boy and he can be on his comfy bed, surround by his toys and us... and as he's not been allowed any treats for ages due to the pancreatitis and some very boring foods... His breakfast tomorrow is going to be fit for a king, I made a beef stock from some huge beef bones I got from the butchers. That's going to make a thick gravy to go with some steak and veggies.... and I've bought the best treats I can for him.

Ahh I'm sorry to hear that dude. Sounds like he's getting the best send off ever.

He did, took him to the beach one final time in the morning, gave him all the treats he wanted, vet came round and we held him until he was gone. We pick his ashes up next week... went to the beach this morning and it felt wrong, the house feels empty. Spent this afternoon, clearing up his stuff and washing everything to put in storage... in tears the whole time.

On Tuesday I had a vasectomy. I was allowed to sit up and watch, and it was one of the most incredibly captivating experiences of my life. The surgeon explained everything step by step, talked about why each thing was necessary etc. I was a little nervous to start with, but the moment he said "can you feel this?", while poking my scrotum with a hot needle, and the skin sizzled and split, I burst into laughter and was fine from then on.

I'm genuinely still buzzing 2 days later, I can't recommend it enough - although I do appreciate it's not for everyone 😆

I didn't feel anything at all until they put the sterilising spray on at the end, and honestly for about twenty seconds I have never felt pain like it. It honestly felt like someone was holding a blowtorch to my sack.

Other than that, yeah 10/10 would recommend.

Wow.

I struggle to give blood, let alone watch surgery on myself.

Fucking busy.

I'm on holiday this week and deliberately kept my last few days clear.

And it's as if every cunt in the organisation thought "huh, I know I could have asked him about this 3 days ago, but I'm sure he won't mind taking on an urgent piece of work at 2pm on Friday"

Wankers

sounds like you should be asking for a raise or searching for better workplace imho. life is too short to waste time on people who don't value yours

[–] Corporal_Punishment@feddit.uk 2 points 1 month ago

Nah its all good. I only told people twice im on holiday, obviously needed three times.....

Everything okay OP? Haven't seen a new one of these in a while.

Cheers for asking! Been a pretty chaotic week for various reasons, including but not limited to having to call an ambulance and fire brigade for my dad to get him to hospital on Friday.

It sounds like everyone's okay, I hope? Either way, what a nightmare.

I don't usually comment on the weekly threads, but I just thought something seemed off. Thanks for letting me know.

I've been hammered deploying a NixOS config for work, thermal printers are balls. But fingers crossed it's sorted now and, being NixOS, I never have to do it again.

Hope you've pinned your channels to actual tagged releases. Also, don't work hammered.

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 1 points 1 month ago

Are there any printers that aren't balls? Anyway, I hope it all went smoothly!

It's always hectic in December, but this year, it's already flatout by mid November.

I'm gonna properly flip out if it gets worserer.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 2 points 1 month ago

its getting worslier by the minute here, I had 2 projects to wrap by the end of year last week. Now I have 4
