I'm no historian, but 1891 sounds too recent for their first kiss.

They were saving themselves for marriage.

Why's he got a belly button?

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 22 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Same reason they’re white?

Does the Bible even address their race? Or they might as well be blue

It's not like Jesus where it's an actual or probable historical figure.

Fairly certain they weren’t white. 🤷‍♂️

Fairly certain they didn't exist at all.

Because he was born of man. Civilizations existed at the time of Adam. Adam and eve were set apart though. Human evolution had advanced to the point of "perfection" (in such that it is) that Gods spirit was able to inhabit man, first in Adam.

"The first man and woman are in God's Garden of Eden, where all creation is vegetarian and there is no violence."

There are three options:

  1. That is a vegetarian lion.
  2. That is not a lion.
  3. This is not Eden.

Of course, any reasonable person would immediately toss out 1 and 2. So, it must follow that this is not Eden, and that's just some naked people who happen to be called Adam & Eve, making out and playing with large snakes, with lions in the background, who might be mere moments away from a bloody massacre.

Yeah he does. He's also got a snake for some reason

The woman is tempted by a talking serpent to eat the forbidden fruit, and gives some to the man, who eats also. (Contrary to popular myth she does not beguile the man, who appears to have been present at the encounter with the serpent). God punishes the man with a lifetime of hard labor followed by death, the woman with the pain of childbirth and subordination to her husband, and curses the serpent to crawl on its belly and endure enmity with both man and woman.
