General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

...well this conference has been the final nail in the coffin for me

Wasn't going to vote for them anyway but I hoped they would get their shit together enough to be part of a left wing coalition. There's been multiple indicators from the conference and the results of it that it's just going to continue to go further into chaos and fail to attract people to it

The name choice is at least something I can laugh a bit about though. Don't understand why "Your Party" was even an option. It would obviously be widely ridiculed if it was chosen. The other choices were so bad too though. Don't understand how they couldn't think of any better options than "Our Party", "For The Many" and "Popular Alliance"

Its been their official registered name since early September. And the Monster Raving Loony Party was already taken.

Because the slogan would be "Our Party In the middle of our street"

And whilst they have plenty of madness, they're too left to be in the middle of anything 😁

I'm glad the Greens stepped into the space to pickup the sincere left wing voters just as all this kicked off.

Nothing to convey inherent trustworthiness like a tricksy, content free rhetorical device of a name. The Labour Party’s affinity to labour may be debatable, but at least their name makes a falsifiable assertion rather than just trying to pressure-sell you an affinity scam (“vote for us bruv, we’re your party” “umm, yes but what do you…” “we’re YOUR PARTY!”).

Quite. And I think that a lot of people can agree that this country absolutely needs reform, but that Reform would be a disaster.
