I've debated whether or not I should post this, but I've been feeling quite disappointed with the quality of comments on Hexbear threads recently.

Since many threads are crossposted between here and there, I would often read the comments on both threads for different perspectives (and to be honest, for more content in general).
In the last few weeks, however, I've been finding myself again and again in situations where I read the Lemmygrad thread and it's completely fine, and then when I check the Hexbear crosspost I would find the comments to be, for lack of a better phrase, an absolute dumpster fire.

Not sure if it's just me, maybe unlucky coincidences, or something of a pattern that I've just missed.
I don't mean to be negative, it's just been bothering me lately.

hexbear is a "big tent" thing mostly made up of am*ricans, a lot of them aren't marxists, as shown by their stance on llms among other things
i wouldn't take most of them too seriously

Hey everyone, have a great week! Keep up with your goals, stay dilligent, and be sure to find some time to relax as well, if you can.

As always, communism will win.

[–] rainpizza@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 3 weeks ago

You too! Have a great week!

EU is fuming about Belgium not willing to use frozen Russian asset money to further fund Ukraine. Basically the only good thing our government is doing now.

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

The best part it that Belgium isn't refusing outright. They are just demanding that the EU agree to pay the damages in any law suits and the EU is saying "we can't take on that risk." So the EU knows it is illegal and would get them sued but they want the Belgians to take the fall.

I swear when NATO breaks up Europe is going to be a slaughter house as all these petty grievances will have nothing holding them back.

[–] ComradePupIvy@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

How, how are liberals able to square freezing capital and then spending someone elses capital? This feels like it would destroy the illusion the state respects property

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 3 weeks ago

It would. It is also illegal and I believe Russia would be in their right to demand payments once war would stop. So it's only natural for Belgium to not want to face a 165 billion repayment to Russia at one point.

lol petro is such a gigachad, he released his bank statements on his own will with charges at a strip club and some fancy store lmao. He is now daring his opposition to also release their bank statements.

"I am not a drug dealer, i just like Gucci and strippers."

From Cuba! Solidarity with Palestine!

Went to the protest today in my city that PSL organized, to protest against the aggression towards Venezuela. Very small turnout. Public reception was 99% positive, only one angry heckler.

[–] KrupskayaPraxis@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 3 weeks ago

Finally took a kickboxing class. Any communist should learn how to defend themselves

Dutch public broadcast finally showing balls by withdrawing from Eurovision

[–] dazaroo@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 3 weeks ago

Ireland's public broadcaster is more radical on Israel than government is

[–] KrupskayaPraxis@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 3 weeks ago

Ireland, Spain and Slovenia as well

Finished Immovable Object: North Korea’s 70 Years at War with American Power by A. B. Abrams [2020] a couple of days ago, which ends it’s analysis half-way through 2020, and immediately started his 2025 book Surviving the Unipolar Era: North Korea’s 35 Year Standoff With the United States. A lot of rehashing in the beginning, but obviously understandable considering it’s a different book.

I would highly recommend Immovable Object to anyone interested in the DPRK, especially since it’s analysis is much more detailed and in-date than the (still good) 2017 Gowans’ book.

From Belarus! They have the guerrilla Santa!

EU is speedrunning losing the support of one of their most pro EU member states and I'm in the front row seat eating my popcorn lol.

Please Belgium swallow the boot and take on a potential 200 billion debt all by yourself because we won't give you any guarantees.

[–] ComradePupIvy@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If the EU looses Belgium or the Netherlands, I don't know what country they can rely on supporting them

[–] starkillerfish@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 3 weeks ago

my dream is EU institutions leaving brussels and the parliament remade into a cultural center or something

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

So how many mass shootings happened in the US this past black friday?

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 weeks ago

two apparently

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Belgian prime minister just got a full, 100% support on his stance on the Russian assets by all parties. This country has never been this united about something lol.

[–] ComradePupIvy@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 3 weeks ago

How bad does tge alternative have to be?

[–] KrupskayaPraxis@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

And of course the Dutch media doesn't report on this. Everything to pretend support for Ukraine is stable, even if it involves a Dutch speaking country

[–] Obamakitten@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 3 weeks ago

Going from Twitter to Rednote is so jarring. They're so nice I get scared

[–] davel@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don’t know why, but this weekend lemmy.ml has been swarmed by Reddit-brained turbolibs. Some broke out their June 2023 alt accounts to vote brigade.

[–] Cowbee@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 2 weeks ago

Seems it flares up every now and then.

[–] Obamakitten@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Nice website you got here.... it would be a shame if someone posted on it 👿👿👿

[–] ComradePupIvy@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The point is for people to post on it?

[–] Obamakitten@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 3 weeks ago

I'll do my best

Learning more about the history of Ryukyu and Okinawa and how they are oppressed by Japanese occupation, I think we should use their native names instead. Ruuchuu for Ryukyu and Uchinaa for Okinawa

[–] Oppo@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I hope you all have a nice week :D

Migrating has sometimes been a struggle with autism, even though I went to a country that has to some extent similar cultural values.

I found a cool poster of John Brown to share

I like the halo, kind of like an orthodox icon

[–] ComradePupIvy@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

John Brown Did Nothing Wrong!!

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 weeks ago

Except getting caught. He should have freed more people and killed more slavers first.

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

There's this football club in town I visited today and parts of their stadium were packed with left wing stickers despite them not being known for left wing supporters so I kinda wonder what's brewing there. Would be cool to have a left wing club here. Our party is the biggest in the club's district of the city so who knows. Maybe the people there found their way into the club.

How do you change your account's password? I forgot mine again lol. I don't remember how I changed it the first time, but the Change Passwords thing under account settings isn't helpful because you have to input your current password to create a new one. 💀

[–] GrainEater@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

As long as you're still logged in, you should be able to enter an email address (you can use a temporary one and remove it when you're done) and use that to reset your password.

[–] WaterBowlSlime@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

THANK YOU!! Using a temp email is what I had to do because the one I had registered wasn't receiving the password reset email. Since you're an admin you should know that gmail seems to eat emails sent from this domain. I don't mean that they go to spam, I mean that they're entirely blocked. I wouldn't've even noticed if I weren't the one sending emails to myself.

In case you don’t trust links (which you shouldn’t haha), you can get there from the log in page (desktop site). There is a forgot password link that takes you to the above page.
