They've been doing that since '48, to be honest - it was only in the Year Of Our Lord 2025 that the truth about Israel managed to dodge western mainstream media selectivity en-masse for the first time.
Better decades late than never, I guess.
Seriously! I remember living in the States finding weird social attitudes like people being unable to criticize Israel without being labeled antisemitic. Or the seemingly random hatred for communism even though the Cold War was not present in people's minds regardless of whether they knew what it was, or being called gay for the stupidest things. What a baffling culture it was sometimes.
Here in South Africa you were insta-banned off news-site commenting forums for comparing Zionists to Nazis a bare fifteen years ago. I don't think people realise just how much liberal "consent manufacturing" came tumbling down all over the world after Oct 7th.
And declare themselves all Jews everywhere.

That was exactly my reaction. The premise you have to accept in order to regard the original statement as blood libel, is in of itself fundamentally antisemitic.

It would be a blood libel if they claimed that the IDF were sacrificing Palestinians to G-d or using their blood to make matzo bread or something. The false equation of religious ritual with murder is pretty important here.

Which is by design. Israelis are constantly told that they are alone against the world, that literally everyone is an enemy, not because of the horrible shit the Israeli government does on a daily basis, but because of the ancient hatred of Jews.
To be fair, there's a lot of ancient hatred to go around, but after the Holocaust, most civilized nations said no more, and then immediately allowed the newly formed Israeli government to act like 18th century colonizers.
Probably none that weren't already antisemitic. Anyone who's aware enough of the situation to support Palestine likely recognizes that Israel and the Jewish people are two different things.
The only people who conflate the two are either paid to do so by Israeli interests, or are looking for an excuse to express the hatred they already have.
I think a young person whose favorite or younger sibling's favorite wholesome kids person is saying 'please stop murdering children' getting called something for saying 'please stop murdering children' is going to think the thing they're getting called is good and the right thing to be.
And, being slightly less charitable: Americans are painfully stupid reflexive reactionaries who believe in nothing. We can make that distinction. They cannot.
So odd the phrase "blood libel". I keep thinking it's like a little tag for my blood type.
It’s really difficult to shift people’s opinion when the reality is both sides can be viewed as truth with imperfect information.
We would do well to separate the Jewish religion from the Israeli regime. Which is committing war crimes inciting real hatred but regrettably its precision is lacking and pulls innocence into the fray.
There’s seldom room for nuance with today’s attention spans though.
