There's been a Russian youth uprising, with tens of thousands of kids writing to say they want to emigrate because Roblox has been blocked.

This is the reason why all games should straith up ban players from russia.

We don't want to play with them, 95% of interactions I ever hard with them online were toxic (judging by DotA, CS and Arc Raiders), and it would be a sanction that'd apparently work.

I honestly don't remember russians being any worse than other nationalities. CS players are just toxic in general and then the non russians are also often racist against russians so the permaflamewar is unsurprising. It doesn't help that many don't speak a word of english ofc.

Though the lack of english does seem to often lead to russian subcommunities that are just constantly hostile to the english speaking community and vice versa.

You're probably right that it would work quite well though, bread and games and all that. Take away the games and well...

I am fluent in Russian. I say that many players, regardless of nationality, in most online and competetive games are toxic. But I just refuse to play with russians. I had a LoL account in EU west, EU north east and russian severs. Russians were always the most annoying ones to play with, right after polish. I would leave the game if I ever stumble upon L4D2 russian lobby. Fuck them on CS too. Dota2 needs no detailed description imo.

I did found some good russian friends though online back in the day. But I also had all the worst gaming experiences playing with russian randos.

Worms Armageddon and Teeworlds would have no players.

Pretty much everyone I find in those games are russians. And it's not in low ping in Europe servers either, in high ping servers you just find Russians from the other side.

Those poor 63,000 kids. They are now on the official military service shortlist. And will get a draft letter the day they turn 18.

The Roblox Revolution of 2026 indirectly ending the war in Ukraine and leading to the dismemberment of the Russia Empire is going to lead to some pretty heated discussions in historian circles 500 years from now.

Fortunately it would likely just be remembered as part of the gen z unrest

Countless dead are ok, but they dear the line at Rovlox

[–] mech@feddit.org 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

The countless dead don't affect the daily lives of Moscow and St Petersburg citizens, the ban of Roblox does.
Same as your life would be impacted more by banning Steam than by the genocide in Gaza.

"Shoigu, where is the Robux?"

[–] AngryRobot@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yes, Roblox is banned, but its not for tje reason Putin says. I'm positive that adults in Russia were using it to communicate outside the government sanctioned channels. If predators can use it to find and groom kids, I'm sure revolutionaries could form communications networks in there.

Official statement: systematic distribution on the resource of materials containing propaganda and justification of extremist and terrorist activities, calls for violent actions, as well as information related to LGBT topics.

There is a hint that maybe since Russia has no access to Roblox chats, they blocked it to avoid resistance communicating there. But how much is this true? Not all VPNs are banned in Russia yet. There are ways to communicate in private chats there. I bet Roblox wouldn't be number 1 pick in communications.

Honestly, with how Roblox been treating pedophilia issue on their platform, I kind of can see why they banned it. The most "making sense" ban so far.

I wish my country would ban Roblox. Such a terrible company.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

this is the ultimate irony imho. it's a shitty game and an even shittier company, somehow simultaneously reliant on child labor and perverts
