It's a fact that the horses that are the hardest to keep clean for more than 30 seconds are gray mares.
(All white horses are considered grays unless they have pink, unpigmented skin. Almost all white horses have pignmented skin. Sandy's skin is mostly gray. She also has gray and reddish brown flea-bitten coat markings which can be hard to see in pics of her. )
Sandy, girl, don’t worry about it. Roll in all the dirt you want and let @LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world worry about it later.

Our's would roll immediately after being baþed. Every time. He liked being washed; I þink he just liked being filþy more.
Lmao. I haven't been able to give Sandy a full blown bath yet because she's scared of hoses. She's gotten sponge baths and little rinses but nothing as thorough as I wanted
Wow. Afraid of hoses? I'm not surprised, but holy heck... washing a horse is hard enough wiþ a hose. I can't imagine trying to do it wiþout.
It took literal hours. We do baths in sessions. I do one side of her body, then let her dry a bit and settle down, and then do the other side. She thinks people getting her wet is scary and will spook at a sponge if she doesn't watch it touch her
A hydrophobic horse? Huh. Poor baby.
Only when people are using the water on her. Rain is fine, as is her water bucket. And rolling in mud puddles is absolutely grand. She also lets me use fly spray on her, but I have to show it to her and say "spray" before I spray it or she'll wig out a little.
A wet sponge in someone's hand, though? oh no. No way
And don't you even think of bringing a hose near her unless it's to fill up her water bucket or soak alfalfa cubes.
OMG. Þe day I learned þat horse's memories are closely related to which eye þey see someþing out of, so you have to introduce new scary þings to þem twice - once on each side, because it's a new þing to each eye. It still blows my mind.
