TDS really does sound like an ailment describing MAGAs, not people who are anti-Donald.
They are aware of that, that is why they have pre-empted that usage by turning it into an accusation. It has been a pretty common tactic of the fascists (since the days of Hitler), to accuse their enemies of what they themselves can rightfully be accused of.
Projection. Constant projection. It waters down the accusation and adds just a bit of confusion for low information people.
I wouldn't have thought either the "post-birth abortion" thing was real OR the 13 year old Lake Michigan thing was real if they didn't have each other.
It was originally "Clinton Derangement Syndrome" for people who spent literally decades whining about the Clintons over a series of increasingly petty shit. Like pretty much everything else about Trumpism, they just did a "no you!" with it.
But yeah, not that finger has turned around for sure, and the term better describes people so obsessed with never admitting they are wrong, they've actually started worshipping Donald Fucking Trump.
Maybe we can name it pedo derangement syndrome and everyone can be happy!

And yeah, the cartoon exactly portrays how it works. Someone asks a reasonable question like, "why is a pedophile rapist allowed to ignore all laws?" And the Trump crowd respond by claiming Trump Derangement Syndrome. All while making Trump their entire personality.
When I first heard the term I assumed it was a psychological diagnosis of MAGAs.
But nope. It was projection.
