Don't get second opinion syndrome. Just because the "good guys" are actually bad, doesn't mean the "bad guys" aren't also bad.

[–] RiverRock@lemmy.ml 15 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (5 children)

Good guys and bad guys don't exist in real life though, because real life has no screenwriter. Better to learn the perspective of all parties and cross-reference them like an investigator

Whoops lol just noticed your quotation marks, seems like you probably roughly agree

I am able to read and think critically. How can you understand anything if you don't read it and apply critical thinking to it? If you just read one side of media you are missing part of the picture.

I also don't live where you do. I don't think Russia is any worse than the US or Europe.

Western liberals continue to get their politics from children's fiction

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 26 points 2 months ago (2 children)

And BBC, that's not state media though according to the arbiter of truth youtube

[–] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago

In fact, suggesting that the BBC is anything other than upstanding will land you on the shitlibs' list of "extremism".

“The BBC is not a credible news source” - https://lemmy.world/post/35824465 ^[https://lemmy.world/post/29072279]

[–] goferking0 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Did labour conservatives ever remove or undo what tory conservatives did to the BBC to make it more like fox News/news Corp media?

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Nope, and they made them even more zionist

[–] RiverRock@lemmy.ml 17 points 2 months ago

Sometimes I go to .world to see what the state media dislikers are reading, and it's kyivpost, kyiv independent, pravda ua...

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social 14 points 2 months ago (6 children)

;)

Billionaire mouthpieces are all the same even if you believe they are different.

Fuck Russia and all its bullshit propaganda. Gtfo with this insane straw man no true Scotsmen begging the question super combo of logical fallacy.

This is some fucking dumb shit right hyuh.

The People are the Power. The rich are gonna learn it too late.

[–] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago

How do those logical fallacies apply here? I'm confused.

Billionaire mouthpieces are all the same even if you believe they are different.

That's kind of what this meme is saying.

[–] hamid@crazypeople.online 12 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The only fucking dumb shit is this comment you left in my inbox. I don't think you understood the meme at all.

libs under OP's post lying through their teeth implying that they equally apply critical thinking (if any) between bougie media outlets rather than just viscerally rejecting one that isn't Western enough to their liking.

Cut the shit, you libs don't actually believe that they're "all the same".

[–] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

Fuck Russia and all its bullshit propaganda. Gtfo with this insane straw man no true Scotsmen begging the question super combo of logical fallacy.

Fallacy fallacy.
Also none of your fallacies apply lol. A meme representing a pretty common occurrence isn't strawmanning, unless any representation of any persons opinion is a strawman, which would make the concept entirely meaningless. I don't even get how you get the two others except by being a bot that exists to deploy thought terminating clichés.
Go back to Reddit where these trite regurgitations earn you le gold instead of derision. Or go back to the server farm in Langley.

straw man no true Scotsmen begging the question super combo of logical fallacy.

This is like the exact opposite of magic words of power. Magic words of impotence

[–] Amnesigenic@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago

Go back to reddit

[–] Ummdustry@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

imagine approving of any media

[–] SkybreakerEngineer@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

I approve of CD-ROM

[–] undeffeined@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Isn't Russia also an Oligarchy?

[–] hamid@crazypeople.online 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The intent is to imply that they are the same thing. Neither RT nor US/EU media are wholly reliable or trustworthy.

[–] undeffeined@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago

Ah, that makes sense

[–] AlHouthi4President@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 months ago

Reminded me of an old one

[–] Supervisor194@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The words "billionaire run" imply that Russian state media is not run by billionaires.

[–] hamid@crazypeople.online 12 points 2 months ago

I don't think you understood the meme at all. It is someone pearl clutching about RT, namely people like yourself on lemmy.world on c/worldnews while not understanding it is the same bullshit they are currently reading. I never said RT wasn't, in fact I'm implying they're the same.

[–] RiverRock@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 months ago

True, it would ideally be "local bourgeoisie vs international bourgeoisie" but I worry that would make the meme less comprehensible to non-marxists

[–] csolisr@hub.azkware.net 2 points 2 months ago

If a piece of information is important enough, somebody will physically go to my house and tell me. Otherwise I just avoid information altogether

[–] pjwestin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I guess media literacy is when you think those are the only two options.

[–] hamid@crazypeople.online 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If that is your take from looking at this meme then you are taking way more from it than is present

[–] pjwestin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

All that's present is a false dichotomy between state propaganda and corporate propaganda, and the implication that people who choose corporate propaganda are idiots. This reads as apologia for consuming state propaganda, framed as media literacy. If it's not, it needs more context.

[–] hamid@crazypeople.online 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

There is no dichotomy, both RT and Western corporate media are billionaire run bullshit. Choosing one or the other is a losing game, you need to critically analyze all the information you are exposed to and cross reference.

You are talking all your biases into it and reading information that is literally not present. This is just making fun of liberals in the US who comment on lemmy threads about RT being unreliable and not much else. The implication is really that the western media is equally unreliable. You are so propagandized that the mere mention of RT makes you leap to wild conclusions.

[–] pjwestin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

There is no dichotomy...

This is just making fun of liberals in the US who comment on lemmy threads about RT being unreliable and not much else. The implication is really that the western media is equally unreliable.

This is the false dichotomy: RT and western media. You've even stopped distinguishing between western corporate media and western media in this comment, because you boiled it down to this false binary. What about Common Dreams? ProPublica? Democracy Now? Those aren't western media?

If the point here is, "Liberals think CNN/MSNBC/NYT isn't biased because its not state media," fine, but with no context, this just as easily reads, "RT is fine because corporate news is also biased." That's why this is sitting at 59% upvotes.

[–] hamid@crazypeople.online 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

You're full of shit, sorry my typing isn't accurate enough for you. There is no dichotomy and you are reading way more into this meme because you personally want to be mad at a strawman. This meme is simply about the people who complain about RT being posted and the joke is that they only trust CNN. That is it. The person says "I only trust western corporate news" and the joke is that RT is in fact no different than western corporate owned billionaire news. The Russian government is run by billionaires too.

If you want to be butthurt or try to concoct some gotcha, go ahead and have a blast. I'm convinced I will never see anything being posted from your account worth reading so I'm going to block you. I suggest you do the same. I don't have downvotes enabled on my instance and don't care.

[–] pjwestin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Alright, I'm prettty sure the only reason you're so bitchy about this is because my second reading of the meme is what you actually believe, and you're pissy that someone called you our for defending propaganda. Block me if you want, it's really more of a mute button anyway. Enjoy being media literate.

[–] SmoothOperator@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

I don't think they approve of billionaire run western corporate media either.

[–] Tenderizer78@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

RT News: Russia is good and Ukraine is evil.

Bloomberg: The rich deserve all of your money and human rights.

The words of RT news are entirely untrustworthy when it comes to the issues the Russian state cares about, and if it's entirely irrelevant to the Russian state then one ought to question why Russian state media is talking about it. May as well listen to the words straight from Putin's mouth.

[–] hamid@crazypeople.online 8 points 2 months ago

Have you ever heard of critical thinking and deriving understanding from words using lenses?
