Yeah there really is absolutely no reason to use X with perfectly reasonable alternatives like Mastodon available. Maybe they don't have the reach right now, but once you start using them, people will follow.

No, but you can make your posts from your Mastodon account appear in lemmy (piefed?, kbin?, mbin?) communities by appending them as hashtags. AfaIk, the other way round doesn't work yet.
That's how I understand it, too. But there are project, like Bridgy, that seem to be made to bridge the gap and allow to post on multiple services.
