Unfortunately the cat didn't make it. The damage was too severe. The vet at the hospital said it was more humane to let go.
I did the best I could.

Mate you did the right thing. It hurts but it's for the best. Good on you for taking care of the poor creature.
Horrible decision, but I think you did the right thing. Think of how the poor kitten must have felt - a serious injury AND getting used to living in a human world AND being separated from mum and the other kittens. Would have been so stressed out. It hurts I know, but with animals, I reckon quality of life is the deciding factor.
Agreed. The vet was almost sure that they wouldn't have been able to survive even with the best care.
Im definitely upset, but I did the best I could in this instance and in general. They haven't gone hungry for almost 18 months. I've had to accept there are limits to what I can do apart from making sure they're fed and have access to clean water.
All the rescues are full and have been full this whole time.
It still fucking sucks.
Thankyou for helping as best you could. It's all you could do π«ππΌ
I'm so sorry. Extra hugs for Gibson.
I am bush fire prepared:
The expensive guitars are in their cases and near the front door
I have a wedding to attend in a couple of weeks, and the dress code is cocktail attire. I do not own any item of clothing that would fit the definition of "cocktail". So hopefully savers has a dress that meets that definition, I mean the dress racks there are usually chock full so I ought to find something.
(I just realised I think I might have a couple of weddings I'll have to attend this year, so I should make sure the savers dress is good quality π)
Thank you Briongloid for posting today's DT, and providing links to remain savvy!
Would you like a black lace cocktail frock? I have one I got from an op-shop for a particular event. Its a wrap around style so it's quite forgiving for fit. Very well made - I think maybe originally a designer style, certainly quite high-end. You can have it for free if you want as it's just taking up space in my wardrobe and I don't think I'm going to wear it again. Was going to donate it once my local Vinnies starts accepting clothing donations again - they aren't at the moment as they are chockers.
Ooooo that would be delightful!
I found one of the strays with a broken leg and eventually wrangled him? into the cat carrier and we're at the animal hospital near my place.
I had 2 options. Take ownership or surrender. So I took ownership. I couldn't abide letting them end up at the lost dogs home.
So congrats Gibson. You will eventually have a friend. (hopefully they're friends).
Edit: Unfortunately it looks like they were hit by a car and may not be able to go to the bathroom by themselves in which case they will sadly have to be euthanised.
Reading that was an emotional roller coaster. You are a good human. Itβs a sad outcome but the kindest. Hugs. Take care of yourself today.
Thanks everyone for the kind words β€οΈ
I saw my stray today, eating the food I put out.

The gang was all back today as well. I was worried they were going to be afraid of me because they saw me catch the little cat.
It's hard to deal with the fact that while volunteers are out helping others their own homes are or maybe destroyed. Fuck.
It would probably be cooler at the office but I'm gonna stay home anyway because it would involve leaving the house. Work has the worst carpark to leave your car in all day as well

Animals really do take after their servents
Back from the dog walk, joined him in the barefoot aspect in case the ground was too hot. It's fine.
stay cool everyone
I was born cool π
I figured I have lived thru so many food fads ( husband's family are pretty insane in this regard adopting every fad without question ) , that I am so now over it and have very little patience for it all.
I have an especial lack of patience for people thinking "ethnic" foods are by default better or that anything from a health food shop is healthier.
Someone asked Red Symons once what the first superfood was, expecting him to say spirulina or some such. His answer: wheat. And I think he actually nailed it.
Sold some old magic cards. Guy took everything I had. Money for a new gpu sorted, old gpu can go to my friends kid who I uncle because his dad seems as shit as mine.
Melbcat has had a very thorough checkup and they say the crying is behavioural due to getting older, itβs not likely to be pain. Which is a relief. Options will be explored to keep her more comfortable physically and mentally.
I find out about the other stuff when they call back
I promise you, BoM, it doesn't feel like 35
It is trying to tell me that Ballarat is 37 and feels like 27, also very very wrong. But a bit less wrong than it's earlier attempt to tell me 40 degrees felt like 23.
AC on, fridge full of water and freezer full of ice cubes.
Hoping no catastrophes.
Cousins live in Sunbury and their property backs onto the forest there. They're prepped and packed just in case. We have offered our house and yard as sanctuary for their dogs (cousins can stay with relatives very close to us).
New neighbours are moving in today. Terrible day for it, trying to move everything in this heat.
Just looked at the Vic Emergency map. So many trees down. Don't park under trees if you can help it OK?
When the veg. box listed 'piece of pumpkin' I expected a cut piece, maybe half. Apparently it actually meant two whole butternuts. I think my pumpkin needs are well and truly covered.
The winds are so strong here that it just put the heavy awning up on its own π³
I am going to have to be very vigilant for my deliveries today - both meat and veg coming today, I'm not wanting them left on the doorstep long!
My doona came out dripping from the washing machine, too heavy to do a spin cycle property, bone dry in 30 minutes. It's crazy out there.
The wind is dreadful out there and the smoke haze is starting to build up as well, giving a horrible ominous feeling to the day. Going to work tonight is the absolute last thing I want to do π
Annnnd power is out haha weow
That's not good. Hopefully it's just a load-shedding thing and won't be out too long.
