A place for Australians and friends to share news from the other countries. Like all communities here, we discuss topics from the Australian perspective.

If you're looking for a global /c/worldnews instead, search for the many options on federated instances.

Rules
  1. Follow the aussie.zone rules
  2. We are not a generic World News clone. News must be relevant to Australians and our region. Obvious disregard will earn an warning and then a ban if continued. (If an article isn't from an Oceanian news outlet, and it doesn’t mention Australia, then it’s probably off-topic)
  3. Leave seppocentrism at the door. If you don't know what that means, you're not ready to post here yet.
  4. Avoid editorialising headlines. Opinions go in the comments, not the post.

In short:

A US immigration officer has shot and killed a woman in her car in Minneapolis, officials say.

The mayor says the Trump administration's claim the incident was self-defence is not true, and told Immigration and Customs Enforcement to "get the f*** out of Minneapolis".

What's next?

A Minnesota official says the state will investigate the shooting with federal authorities.

General strike would be my choice.

For a few weeks now I have been expecting some real retaliation to be honest. It's a damn mess that's for sure.

I feel really sad for the decent Americans. I've got a bunch of LGBT+ friends in Australia that are really being affected by this, particularly the potential for it to spread.

Yeah I think it is definitely time for a general strike. There's a list of serious grievance as long as my arm, but even just to demand that the murder is charged with murder would be a good move. A line has to be drawn somewhere. And if murdering civilians has not cross the line, then wtf?

Shut down Minneapolis. Park your car in the middle of the street and block traffic with your body. Don't go to work. March on City Hall and demand the mayor do more than talk. Obstruct everything you can. Throw your sabots into the machinery.

Especially if you're one of the current targets (not hetro+white). Claim asylum in another country. The evidence is clear to the rest of the world.

God forbid they swear in a news article when making a direct quote.

Get the fuck out of Minneapolis

America is fucked. Stay away if you can until they sort themselves out.

Get the fuck out of Minneapolis

Wasn't that the actual quote?

Yeah, that's in the article, and the summary, in censored form, but I guess they have editorial guidelines against profanities in headlines, so they've paraphrased without it there.
