Dropped two notches on my belt over the last 4 months and the one I'm on now is so annoying 😭 Feels good to feel better about myself though.

Congratulations!!

When I was losing weight, I found that a Grip 6 nylon belt with infinite adjustability (no holes) was great. I could set it wherever I needed it to keep my now-baggy pants from falling down.

I have used these belts for years and they're great. Theyre so simple because they're a friction hold and i love that. Even bought one for my dad years ago.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

For what it's worth, this also works well if you want to lie to yourself about how much weight you've gained.

That's probably not the healthiest approach, though.

As an alternative, I once was wearing a no name brand one of these at work and it simply broke. I spent the rest of the day with an extension cord tied around my waist. It was also adjustable and, as a bonus, all of my customers of the day got a kick out of it.

I'm guessing "Grip 6" is a particular brand, but I have used buckles with grip action (on normal leather (or were they some fake leather? dunno but not nylon) belts without holes) quite a bit and I liked them.

Making your own holes in a holed belt might cause a greater structural weakness than it can handle, depending upon how tight you like it.

I recently got a knitted-ish belt (this is probably nylon or similar stuff) and you can insert the anchor at ~5mm intervals (thickness of the rope used to knit it) and that seems like a good idea too.

I have the opposite. Suffering from failure.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

If you're walking to the store but haven't gotten there yet, did you fail? No.

Losing weight isn't a goal, it's one mile marker. You're not done when you get there. You then need to learn how to be a skinny person and live that life forever.

It's a long walk till the day you die. Keep walking. You'll get there.

And look up mikeneedsaplan. Good fellow.

I hate the difference between to and too, I never get that right lol

[–] JustAnotherKay@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Too has two O’s because β€œthem, and me too!” There’s two of us!

To has one O because β€œI’m going TO DO this!” It looks like do!

[–] AmosBurton_ThatGuy@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

Late reply, but thank you! That honestly helps a lot.

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

My belt is the type that has grooves on it and you can adjust the buckle in smaller increments compared to the typical holes. It’s also great for avoiding creases when using a standard buckle.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This style of belt https://a.co/d/dm47Zve? I know I love mine. It's great even for the natural daily fluctuations.

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yep exactly! And thanks for the link, I’ve been using it for 15+ years but never bothered knowing what it’s called.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

That's not the original. That's some off name. But this specific one is the one I bought a couple years ago because the buckle uses less metal and I can get through the metal detectors at the airport with it. My old one would set it off at my local airport every time. That's extremely annoying when your job has you travel every week.

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh for sure, I meant I never knew it was called a ratchet belt.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Yep, and i wouldn't go back to any other style at this point. It's way too convenient.

[–] CatZoomies@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

You can fix this by tying an onion to your belt, which is a style.

If you don’t have an onion, I recommend making a stew that blinds you for one day.

[–] Andonyx@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

That's awesome. A close friend is doing similar stuff right now and I hope you both are happy to have this specific issue. You absolutely should feel good about yourself!

[–] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 months ago

If thats your style you could try some suspenders instead of the belt

[–] RaoulDuke25@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I feel ya. Losing weight and I'm finally at the final notch, which means I have to buy a new belt. Fuck my life.

[–] archonet@lemy.lol 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Well, if you have an awl handy you could always just make new notches. That's what I did when I had a belt that didn't have a hole at the right spacing for me.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 8 points 2 months ago

Literally just a nail and a hammer works too if you don't have an awl.

[–] archonet@lemy.lol 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

If you have a swiss army knife with one, use the awl to punch a new hole in the belt. Worked great for me.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

It's not as clean, but a (metal) nail can work in a pinch as well

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Put a hole in your belt between the two

Less complains, more results Mr success

Mine keeps undoing itself, somehow the pin goes behind the buckle.

Going back to leather probably.
