Those cards are never in stores. Cards that are still in rotation aren't that expensive (unlees the thieves managed to get half the store's merch)

If you look at the picture from the article, it seems like it's a specialty store that has some special cards on display. I'm sure the most expensive aren't on display, but it's possible they had some pricy cards and collectibles out.

Dumb, slabs are serialized. They'd need to unslab them which is risky and usually doesn't result in the same grading.
