As an old punk, the kids are showing up but holy shit are they too much in the pit. I'm happy enough to take the odd elbow or get knocked around, but there were 15 of them just all out with roundhouse kicks and windmill fists. The safety mechanism of the pit is the fact that you're all bunched up so it's hard to fall over and easy to pick people up. If you're creating a 6 square meter exclusion zone for people who don't want to take your platform boot to the jaw, you are a hazard.
I hate that shit. Friendly pits are one of the most cathartic things on earth don't fucking ruin them on purpose.
I guess it depends on where you are but where I live it is mostly due to a lot of elitism and gatekeeping. I (20) semirecently went to a show at a youth center (I think that is what its called in english as well) and chatted a bit with one of the workers afterwards. Sbe told me how younger and especially "less punk" people oftentimes are disliked by the oldheads who then also bemoan the death of the local scene.
Another factor probably also is the accessibility. Young people are from what I've seen more used to big concerts by acts they already know and listen to. And most of the well known punk bands formed in the 80s and 90s who often don't even exist anymore or are so old and famous that they charge mainstream prices for the tickets.
Iim not a gen z but I am also not arsed about punk, the music genre. It’s just not my cup of tea. get me some melody plz. Though I did enjoy a Lambrini Girls gig recently. And post punk…. That’s some good shit.
I'm not big on punk but I don't get what you mean in saying there isn't melody.

Maybe it's just who was playing and where? Punk punk certainly isn't as big as it used to be but it still has young fans.

Depends on town/city/country/venue really, some of the places we play somewhat regularly have mainly young crowds and it's pretty common we play with other punk bands that are late teens-early twenties.
