I watched an interview where he said in the same sentence that it would solve climate change and world hunger, and something else astronomical.

Absolutely delusional. Think of what all of that investment money would have actually done if put towards actual useful causes.

The money spent on OpenAI could have already solved homelessness in the US.

[–] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 32 points 1 month ago (1 children)

and also put a pretty big dent in climate change

[–] stormeuh@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

Spare some change for solving world hunger too

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 32 points 1 month ago (2 children)

You could have bought sex toys for ducks made by artisan artists out of cheese for the money and it would still have had less negative impact.

[–] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Holy shit, you've got a line on artisinal cheese duck fleshlights? I've been in the market for ages!

[–] AFallingAnvil@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 month ago

Finally, a use for a fine arts degree

[–] pulsey@feddit.org 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

How do you call them? duck fuckers?

[–] lividweasel@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

[The man from Nantucket]: “Finally, my time to shine!”

[–] prex@aussie.zone 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's some pretty structural cheese, I mean duck penis's are wild

My dog has... However you want to call those cheese-chew-toys. You can use those as a hammer.

[–] VeryInterestingTable@jlai.lu 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah but spending money on useful causes has zero chances of winning big. It's all about the thrill of the gain. Addicts.

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 9 points 1 month ago

We could solve the climate crisis or we could get the mystery box. It could even ~~be a boat~~ solve the climate crisis

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

It already has! Simply ask any LLM how to solve climate change, or world hunger.

Of course, Altman and people like him will perpetually say it's not ready and the answer is wrong, because they don't like the answer.

Dude, that's the wrong Sam Altman. You.didn't notice the supposed billionaire living in a small shithole LA apartment?

[–] scops@reddthat.com 4 points 1 month ago

Right? I don't think this meme means what you want it to meme

[–] udon@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago (2 children)

That scene keeps me motivated to regularly clean my toilet

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Good for hygiene, but, are you expecting someone to force you down the toilet anytime soon?

[–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 27 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's 2026 you never know what the fuck is about to happen out here

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 2 points 1 month ago

That's too true, thanks for the reminder

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I never saw the big lobowski. What happens?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 22 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

These thugs break into his apartment to rough him up because he has the exact same name as a rich man whose trophy wife has been taking money from a loan shark/porn producer and they're trying to intimidate him into paying them back (by breaking his shit and drowning him in the toilet). Except the thugs are dumb asses who got the wrong Jeffery Lebowski.

Then they pee on his rug, which really tied the room together.

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Also they're fucking Nazis.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 15 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

No, these men are nihilists, Donny.

[–] Billy_fuccboi@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

You're out of your element Donny. You're like a child

[–] axexrx@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Nihilists? Fuck me. I mean say what you want about the tenets of national socialism, at least its an ethos.

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 month ago

Oh damn, no wonder he was mad about the rug.

[–] SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Just wait until it starts interfering with relationships in bigger numbers. It's coming.

[–] fckreddit@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 month ago

I have been telling since 2022 LLMs have barely any benefits, especially not that justify investment in trillions of dollars.

[–] mongooseofrevenge@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Random fun fact, the dude dunking the Dude in the toilet bowl is Mark Pellegrino. He also played Lucifer in Supernatural.

I know. He's one of my most recent discoveries but he has a nack to put the frustration I can't articulate into angry words that give me comfort that I'm not thr only one who's going mad about all of this.
