Date went okay. Guy was nice. We had some things in common but also were in different worlds. I think after I meet these next two people, I will quit this app thing.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 1 month ago

get to know them 🙂

The amount of dates I've been on where they were amazing in text and potatoes in real life led me to ditching the apps

You’re going to quit because the very first person was nice and the date went well?

Woke up too early due to a nightmare I was going to fail year 12. What? That was a very long time ago, and I was never at risk of failing, brain what is wrong with you? I would like to go back to sleep now.

Gotta say, work is not very good at product launches. They're the sort of place that only puts out something new every 5 years or so but this has been a real hodge-podge.

When I worked for the world's largest instrument manufacturer we would sometimes have 3 product launches in a week, but they were bad at launches in their own way. They'd announce something then say stock wouldn't arrive for a couple of months. When stock finally hit stores we weren't talking about it because we were preparing for the next product launch.

I took the best client facing IT guy with me into a meeting today.

Let me just say, he's an awesome guy and great to work with.

However.

These guys really overestimate what the average person understands. Now I get why they hired me.

Back when I worked as a business analyst, about 80% of my work was translating geek into human and back again. It's a thing. Geek being insurance speak/legalese.

[–] Salvo@aussie.zone 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

My job description is “Parts Interpreter”.

I have to translate descriptions like “Thingy”, “Whatchamacallit” and “Doo-dad” into useful descriptions through dialogue with the customer.

It is amazing how often the customer doesn’t want to work with you in a dialogue and doesn’t answer any questions or respond to clarifications.

I almost got offered a job because I could explain Juniper and MLPS even though I don't have the technical knowledge.

agree

the hard part is not making average people defensive

[–] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Part of the reason I gave up on my relationship with my father is that he started off defensive when learning about computers and devolved into a full on adult tantrum when I told him he didn't need to know everything at the start. Specifically I was setting up DNS and he wouldn't let me continue but refused to listen to anything I had to say. Still bothers me. Were I richer I'd get therapy for it but as it is I don't think there's any reconciling between us at this point.

You are soooooo right about that.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Fruit & veg box arrived. I have sooooo many limes now! The capsicums are red this month instead of green which is nice.

[–] Force_majeure1234@aussie.zone 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Green capsicum is definitely the inferior capsicum

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 6 points 1 month ago (5 children)

FYI - it's the same plant, just harvested at different times. Greens are harvested early, yellow orange are mid ripe and red are the ripest.

I only learned this a couple of years ago.

[–] TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Yep. Its legit. Green capsicae are unripe, usually red capsicae harvested early. The red ones, the yellow ones and the black ones are different varieties - all at ripe stage. Bull horn (red or yellow) caps are two more different varieties again. Don't get me started on aubergines.

🍻 cheers. I’m trying DHC Twilight Hazy IPA which is from a Japanese brewery near Mt Fuji. It’s very malty for an IPA. I purchased it at Sessions bottle shop in Box Hill. They have a vast range of Japanese beers.

What they didn’t have is a Thai spirit called Mekhong. It’s really a rum type spirit. If anyone can turn me on to a supplier I will be your best friend.

[–] TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Helping the young Seagoons to move house and you are tired? Post 50 its not a bug, its a hardware issue.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 1 month ago

they arrived from overseas with just a few suitcases so they're organising or buying a whole household of stuff

they are getting all the spares of anything I have and of course I bought them a lot too, hopefully other fam members can kick in too

I've been headachy too

In case anyone was wondering, Bunnings do in fact, stock ladies underwear. Be the first to review!

[–] Pilk@aussie.zone 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

They also have DIY options that work out a bit cheaper.

Hmm I've accidentally changed my Google maps (app, android) perspective so it's like I'm viewing more from the horizon instead of directly over-head. I've tried a bunch of different gestures and I can't figure out how to change it back. Any ideas?

Edit: right after I posted I realized I didn't try double finger in same direction swipe. Success!

Leg feels a bit better… remove compression bandage for shower and walk on it unsupported… starts hurting again
