/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Voyager variant of a classic:

VOY s7e9 "Flesh and Blood"

Admittedly, Ensign Ricky's fate isn't shown on screen. However, after Paris beams out with the lone Hirogen survivor, Seven shuts down the simulation which leaves her, Chakotay, Tuvok, and stray bodies... no Ricky.

Didn't even give him the courtesy of a glorious death.

Huh, this begs the question: did Voyager acquire enough new crew members to maintain a constant population?

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Janeway learned a trick or two from O'Brien before leaving for the Badlands. Buffered backups.

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Couldn't they use this to make a clone army?

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

No... that would be unethical.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

They were saddled with duplicate Kim since season 1.

[–] MadLegoChemist@startrek.website 11 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

This website has a tracker for the Voyager population. Not sure of the accuracy since there is no mention of poor “Ensign Ricky”.

Ensign Ricky is just a placeholder for whichever sad sap gets zapped next.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This list (and this site in general) is certainly a sign of someone with deep psychosis, but I love that someone did the math all the same. Lol

The wiki with the chairs on Star Trek is way better for that minute detail nerd cred.

[–] azimir@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 weeks ago

Now that's a dedication to Nerdiness that the Web used to reek of! Thank you for linking to that.

I would challenge their final paragraph about medical staff. Given the length of time Voyager was traveling, I'd expect at least one or two members to learn at least some medical skills to augment sickbay. They might be official medical staff, but any sideways references to a 'team' or pluralized sickbay could be easily handled by anyone who crash coursed into it.

I would also like to see the square meters per Voyager crew member. The ship had tons of space to go around.

They did get some of the Equinox crew at one point, I'm sure that helped

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

6 from Equinox, Seven, Neelix, and Kes (but only 'til early season 4 plus an extra appearance). The rest from the buffer as needed.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Don’t forget about all the Maquis.

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

I count them from the get go, but fair.

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Didn’t they get some ex-Borgs as well, like Icheb?

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

The other kids left shortly after. And as for Icheb... well, the less said the better. Justice for Icheb!

Kinda like in recent Trek series where, when an episode begins with a day in the limelight of a non-main character, it's basically their eulogy.

  • DIS: Lt. ~~Miriam~~ Airiam. Stupid autocorrect.
  • SNW: Ensign Gamble
[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

At least with SNW, he was a new character. DISCO dropped the ball (I know, I know, into the buffer) at any attempts to flesh out characters beyond the core 5 or so. Sudden backstory is always a death sentence.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 2 weeks ago

std was a pretty bad series, other than michelle yeoh anthony rapp, the others arnt that notable

[–] shittydwarf@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

And the shuttlecrafts.

[–] lordnikon@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Just once I would have loved for them to inverse the dynamic and the rando redshirt is the only one to make it back and we spend the whole episode with them trying to reset it and saving everyone.

[–] TheDoozer@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, and then they die, sacrificing themselves to bring back the rest of the crew, thus showing the futility of not being main cast.

Well I like your username!

What? Your Mom buy you a 'puter for Christmas?

[–] Snowcano@startrek.website 3 points 1 week ago

She did! And it’s insanely great, it’s got a 28.8bps modem!

That's basically Lower Decks in a nutshell

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Let's get out of here before one of those things kills ensign Ricky!___

[–] Lemming421@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Is there air? YOU DON’T KNOW!

[–] autonomous@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't know how Harry manages to avoid these assignments. He should have died ages ago.

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

He did... in season 2. We only see Phase Shift Harry from s2e21 "Deadlock" onward.

Edit: also briefly silver blood Harry in s5e18 "Course Oblivion," but that's another sad story altogether.

[–] unlawfulbooger@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Harry also died on season 1, where they find the planet that’s basically a burial site.

Emanations VOY S1E9

[–] autonomous@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

so not only can he not rank up but he isn't allowed to die either 🤣

[–] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Ricky needs the Roc Ingersol upgrade.
