my favorite part of 2002 was all the "never forgetti september eletti" while ALSO everyone was frantically airbrushing the twin towers out of movie posters to not make people remember

my favorite part of 2020 was the months of one-911-load-of-deaths every day signifying that we did not indeed “never forget” because the attackers this time were microscopic instead of brown

Don't forget sending slightly more Americans to die in Iraq while killing an order of magnitude more Iraqis over such 9/11-related reasons as [mumbling] and [incomprehensible].

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago

Oh yes, never forget

Understandable.

Any movie that contained the World Trade Center was taken off TV. A scheduled airing of Home Alone 2 during the Christmas holiday didn’t happen just because of that one scene with Kevin on the roof of one of the towers.

[–] agingelderly@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago

Kevin never went on the roof lol

Basically people didn’t want to be reminded of it constantly

It’s was a different time in America. We didn’t ask the right questions at the time.

My "favorite" part was the constant beating of war drums and preparations for another war in the middle east.

I've never been into conspiracy theories but after seeing the Epstein files, the Snowden leaks and the Panama papers... It's funny how the events of 9/11 sure were awfully convenient for a select few 100 families across the globe.

Rich people always win. I don't think there's really more to it than that but I could be wrong.

They were demolished in 1997 because they were deemed obsolete, and with a flawed design, and they wanted to redevelop the site into what's known today as the new world trade center, demolition took 7 years and only in 2006 the site was empty

It's been almost 25 years, and 9/11 jokes still aren't funny.

Counterpoint: for the last 25 years, 9/11 jokes have retained their moderate humor.
