Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

In the past month, Homan told reporters, 158 people have been arrested for interfering with federal law enforcement, a crime for which penalties range from one to 20 years in prison. Of those cases, he claimed, 85 have been accepted for prosecution. The rest are still pending.

Over five a day...

And it seems a safe assumption they're all citizens, or else they'd have just been deported

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 54 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

We're a police state. Whenever you hear Republicans or neoliberal complain about anything in the justice system is because the system isn't draconian enough. Chuck and Jeffries are bought by the prison industrial complex.

[–] forrgott 7 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

Dude, we invented police. Literally. We are the original police state, which can be easily backed up by the fact that we have a higher percentage of incarcerated individuals than any other nation. And that has been true for a very long time.

[–] Grimtuck@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I believe the original police was created in Britain in the late 1820's by Robert Peel. It was another 30 years for it to be copied in the US. As a UK citizen I can only apologise although much like your government you created something much much worse. Quite the achievement based on how bad our own police are, and government.

[–] forrgott 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

The Scotland Yard or whatever they started with did not really even resemble modern policing.

Nah even the ones they're "deporting" as I understand it most of them are being sent to the camps in the hopes that the cruel conditions with convince them to leave willingly and give up due process rights.

On some level they still think they can only get away with actually deporting so many with zero due process before they actually face consequences. So if looks like they're trying to be as cruel as possible in the hopes that they'll just waive those rights and allow themselves to be deported.

Gee I thought Walz assured us that Homan would be more professional!

I'm fucking sick as shit of Democrats rolling the fuck over to continue giving fascists the benefit of the doubt.

[–] MonkRome@lemmy.world 22 points 3 weeks ago

What he said was that holman was at least willing to talk (which is a low bar). Walz made no assurances that I am aware of. I agree with your second sentence either way though.

So now it's time to use actual cameras with stout telephoto lenses and have discrete pockets in your clothes for the micro sims to be hidden in (if it looks like one os going to get caught) and also use those parabolic dish microphones to record everything from a distance and if ICE moves towards the observers, they slip away and find safety. Old school. Cameras in phones mean observers have to get too close. Change up the equipment and how you deal with these shitheads.

[–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There's video of them executing citizens. I have doubts about this plan.

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yep.. Those executed citizens were within immediate reach. Can't be close enough for the fuckers to catch you. Always have an escape route ready.

[–] abcdqfr@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

My brother in christ we need cardio and guns. Wtf were you doing in history class?

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

My brother in christ

Please, can we start using "brother in strife" instead of associating people with that blood cult?

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip -4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Noooo guns. Guns gets the military involved. You and I will not win once that bridge is crossed. It will give Trump and the fascists an excuse to declare Martial Law and turn us into a real police state.

While it's romantic and fun to imagine going all Punisher on the chuds in ICE, that's not a real end game you want to aim for.

I WAS paying attention in History class. We're not in the 18th century anymore, so the notion that anything will be changed with violence.. is rather.. well.. Lemme just leave you with the thought that what can come down will crimp almost every aspect of our lives in ways you definitely will not like and it will start with the internet and phone.

(also, do pay mind to who's got the access to heavy gauge fully automatic firearms, and who does not.)

[–] TheAnrkist@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The US Military couldn't beat the Taliban. Russia couldn't beat the Taliban either. The biggest weapons do not always matter. Guerilla warfare works.

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago

You're dealing, in the case of the Taliban, with a people that were devoutly religious, and living in extreme conditions of hardship, poverty and depravation well before the Soviets rolled into that country. Their lives alone, made them capable of out stubborning western militaries.

Americans by and large aren't used to such marginal modes of living.. we're not, at all.

Guerilla warfare won't have any lasting power.

Americans want their comforts, their internets, their cell phones.. We are a bourgeois country and that won't change until we go into another Great Depression.. now THAT could set the revolutionary foxes into the social henhouse - but it needs to come from disastrous policies made by the people at the top, so they bear all the blame.

That will get political winds blowing in a different direction.

[–] abcdqfr@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

And WW2 ended with "noooo guns"..? I've got my meshtastic and armaments. How long are you going to ignore the fact that this all gets so much worse before anything gets better? How prepared are you for the days to come? One of us is waxing poetic, certainly. Try harder to write the last poem, eh?

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago

Love.. I'm armed.

I just don't advertise or agitate because of it.

Homegirl is not MAGA.

[–] lennybird@lemmy.world 24 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I hope all of these observers have a speed-dial or dead-man's switch for contacting a civil rights attorney at the very least. I know there's been a huge amount of dollars flooding into these civil rights legal groups in the area.

I know there’s been a huge amount of dollars flooding into these civil rights legal groups in the area.

Unfortunately it's barely keeping up and there's more abductions and that means more research and investigation to make the correct court filings.

If you're in MN and you're going to a protest

[–] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 18 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

It is well past time for EVERYONE to start carrying a weapon. Stab or shoot those motherfuckers if they’re gonna try to take you.

[–] cheesybuddha@lemmy.world 19 points 3 weeks ago

Do ANYTHING you can to not get taken to the second location.

This is the number one thing to do when dealing with any abductors

[–] TheGoldenV@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

Then they kill you AND your family. Have any other ideas?

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 23 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Arm, your family too.

There are more of us than them. We outnumber them by the thousands. They get off by feeling more powerful.

And you're empowering them. Stop it.

[–] TheGoldenV@lemmy.world -5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (4 children)

lol! What type of gun should I be buying for my elementary age daughters? Should I stick with 9mm or just go with the FN5.7? Maybe just a baby knife? They’d probably be better with knives, but I worry about reach.

Idk why you’re sitting around typing when there’s killin’ to be had! Lead the charge bub!

Edit: Whew, with all this big talk encouraging violence I guess we’ll see you in the news tomorrow! How many of you have ever fired a shot in anger? In war? Talking of what others need to do. Pathetic.
I’m not even going to meet you halfway and give sympathetic talking points. Nut up or shut up.

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago

Start with a BB gun, then a .22, then up. A little pocket knife to stick strangers that try to grab them might be a good idea too, you’re acting like commenters are being histrionic but these nazis are literally kidnapping and murdering people in broad daylight

[–] cheesybuddha@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago

Are you so coddled by modern society that you view a child defending themselves against violent abductors as an absurd thing?

[–] kungen@feddit.nu 11 points 3 weeks ago

I don't condone your kids needing to shoot someone, but there's nothing wrong teaching them about firearms as early as possible. I was out shooting with my dad when I was around 6 years old... it all depends on the maturity levels.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 0 points 3 weeks ago

i dont know where you are getting the idea to arm children, you would be a very irresponsible and dangerous parent around your "children" and should not be parenting them.

[–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 3 weeks ago

Wars have casualties, it's sad and unfortunate but I see a lot more blood being spilled before this is over.

[–] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 10 points 3 weeks ago

Fuckin’ rise the fuck up and actually resist this shit. No protests. If they shoot, shoot ‘em back!

[–] cheesybuddha@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

Get 2 armed friends and have each of them get 2 more armed friends, etc

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 3 weeks ago

or in your car, use it to defend yourself. if they try to smash through your window attempt to drive away

[–] DaMummy@hilariouschaos.com -2 points 3 weeks ago

If there's any feds reading this, if I ever try to buy a gun, please don't let me.
