An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.

https://dullmensclub.com/

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

So you must be pretty good by now.

What is your rating? On chess.com I got up to 1649, then fell back down, hardly play lately.

Fluxuates between 1100 and 1300. I mostly play 10min, plus a lot of 3min.

I love chess, but I have a terrible ELO because I get anxious when playing online and can't think straight.

I only play puzzles on lichess really, due to this.

I quit playing for like a year after I hit the high score there, I wasted way too much time on it. For all I played I should've been higher really, for a couple of years anyway.

I did mostly 30 minute games, 10 minute ones aren't enough time for me, but I played a lot of those too. They both qualify as "rapid" now if I recall, at first they were different scoring for ratings. The chess tournaments they have like hours for the traditional games.

My current streak for spider solitaire is 2416. I like spider solitaire and assume you probably like chess. Better than doom scrolling I think.

I never learned any form of solitaire other than the one that came with Win 3.1

Playing chess every day is probably good for your brain

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 2 points 16 hours ago

True. Hopefully cancels out a lot of the negative stuff in my life, with net zero as a result.

I'm sorry to object to your post, but how would playing chess qualify as being dull?

(and congrats, btw ;)

Wow never missing a day, I couldn't do anything that regularly whit without fail, I think.

I was surprised it was that high, since a significant amount of those have been spent in aircraft and on ships on the other side of the world. But that's the magic of modern satcom, I guess.

But that’s the magic of modern satcom, I guess.

It is a bit surreal to have been born in a time before the, non-research, Internet and now to live in a time where almost everyone has access to The Network from anywhere inside the Earth's first 2 Lagrangian points. I don't think the Mars Relay Network is directly connected to the public Internet so no Internet on Mars, yet (coming soon, pre-order now.)

Absent a major catastrophe this will likely be the default state of humanity going forward. Not having data will eventually seem as odd as living without electricity or plumbing.

I always miss days and it's not very forgiving. I'm at 1000 days of using the app, but my daily streak is currently... 5 days lol

[–] Cybersec@piefed.social 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Why does the image show FSSMT for the days, you’re playing just those days a week and not 7 or they just use a weird graphic?

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Probably just shows the previous 5.

[–] Cybersec@piefed.social 1 points 10 hours ago

Ah cool, interesting

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

I guess that means you like chess. :)

I’m pretty sure my dad played FreeCell for, like, eight years consecutively at one point.
