i remember the pinto jokes when i was a kid, but i remember a lot of jokes about the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Firestone tires.

it doesn't specifically acknowledge how american government fines against american vehicle manufacturers are bullshit and that jury awards are invariably, wildly reduced on appeal.

meanwhile, the ones where japanese manufacturers get caught, they pay 10-100x in damages, some go bankrupt, and some even go to jail. and that's capitalist-ass japan.

The ford pinto was combustible? I know the old crown victoria's the cops used to all use they put heavy gear in the trunk sometimes and going over bumps it could puncture through the trunk through the gas tank right below it and catch the vehicle on fire. They were suing ford and ford said if you sue we won't sell to you anymore, they didn't make money on police vehicles either it was a prestige thing they sold them at cost as I understand it, and the police dropped it.

Obviously the cops all since changed to other vehicles, seemingly all suv's.
