Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

[–] urheber@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Wow what a cutie !!! I bet the person wearing that (stinky as fuck) sweater is a hottie !!!

[–] meow@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 week ago

If it shouldn't smell like sweat, why call it sweater?

[–] drosophila@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Which grain do you like the most, wheat, rice, or corn?

[–] urheber@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Whatever they make beer out of. Or rice. But corn is good too. Don't like wheat though. You?

[–] Mister_Feeny@fedia.io 11 points 1 week ago

Well of those 3, beer is most commonly going to be made of wheat. The very one you don't like. So re-rank if you need to.

[–] Laser@feddit.org 7 points 1 week ago

Imagine not listing the superior grain

eepy lil baby

[–] urheber@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm not at liberty to disclose that infowmation :( but her nickname (given by me) is "favorite cat" or "meowmeow" because she is the fluffiest fluffball in Europe at least :D

[–] meow@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 week ago

But... I am Meow :(

[–] grue@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You didn't have to edit the title. Writing "rule" in it isn't a rule.

[–] urheber@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 1 week ago

WHAT.? I thought for sure I would get banned

[–] recursive_recursion@piefed.ca 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Did you adopt her or was she distributed to you via the cat network?

[–] urheber@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 week ago

She is not mine, but one of her future babies will be :) she was adopted.

[–] Ioughttamow@fedia.io 7 points 1 week ago

Would Rufio have defeated Hook if he was instead named Ruleo?

[–] riwo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

you awe on the street? what are u doing there? ?w?

[–] urheber@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I am travelling to my next sleeping location (I have been awake for 5 hours already). That cat picture is actually me btw. AMA (ask me anything)

[–] riwo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

u look very fluffy. do people randomly pat u and feed u? i sure would!

[–] urheber@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 week ago

Thank you :3

I won the fluffiness contest (Europe) in 20016, and was nominated 5 times for world fluffiest fluff from years 20017-20098. Fans and unfamiliars alike pet me as soon as they see me. I am so fluffy in fact, that I make touching elements softer.

[–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So.... Do you come here often?

[–] urheber@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not as much anymore (all the cat pics are on reddit) :,( but I have been here for 2 years. You?

[–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I don't know. I didn't expect the conversation to make it this far...

On lunch break and NewPipe feed is boring, so I'm back here

Alright, how about a fun task to blow an hour—avoiding any fifth glyphs. It's basic, but will stop you in your tracks for a bit if unfamiliar. Jot down about your your day, possibly an upcoming situation, and do it with good grammar, spanning a paragraph or so. Now you'll sit stuck on this, and look full of focus! My post is also following this proposition, so you know.

Cool cat photo, did you shoot it? If so, say hi soon!

📝 - Not a shock this ask still sits without you, it's fairly difficult! I'm glad you got additional asks during that, to allow you a bit of busy during your wait. Couldn't know what would occur, so my option was long—just in that situation it was all you had lol.

Ee's eeee eeee eeeeeeeee eeeeeee ee eeeeee eeeeeeeeeee eeee eeee eeeeee. Ee eeeee eee eee eeeeeeee, eeee ee.

.It's even more difficult however to solely communicate with that letter. At least for the receiver, that is.

[–] Foxfire@pawb.social 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Okay, challenge accepted. As characters such as spaces and general punctuation are allowed, I can encode letters using binary and you can decipher them. Codex: E is 1, . is zero. A space signifies one number has terminated, and another has begun. A hyphen will denote the ending of a word.

MessageE..EE E.... .E... .E..E .EEE. EE... - .EEEE ..EE. - ...E. .EE.. ....E ...EE .E.EE - E...E E.E.E ....E E..E. E.E.. EE.E. - .E.E. E.E.E ..E.. ..EEE ..E.E - .EE.E EE..E - E.EE. .EEEE E.EEE

I wanted to be smart and just use Bash pipes to get the result (basically: sed | xattr -n1 command_that_turns_binary_into_decimal | command_that_turns_decimal_into_char ) but I couldn't get the xattr part to work :(

This would've been perfect for piping dammit! I had to do it by hand just now so I wasted in total like 30 minutes on this.

I rate my experience a 1/10

[–] Foxfire@pawb.social 2 points 6 days ago

Well, I appreciate the effort anyway. I did it by hand too, here's my alphabet (lovingly named Elphabet) where I pasted letters one at a time lol:

Elphabet

- A: ....E
- B: ...E.
- C: ...EE
- D: ..E..
- E: ..E.E
- F: ..EE.
- G: ..EEE
- H: .E...
- I: .E..E
- J: .E.E.
- K: .E.EE
- L: .EE..
- M: .EE.E
- N: .EEE.
- O: .EEEE
- P: E....
- Q: E...E
- R: E..E.
- S: E..EE
- T: E.E..
- U: E.E.E
- V: E.EE.
- W: E.EEE
- X: EE...
- Y: EE..E
- Z: EE.E.

Basically:

  • "Give me something to do."
  • "Sure, tell me about your day without using the letter e."
[–] snowykitty@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

oh okay, my brain couldn't comprehend what i was reading lolll
