Melbaboutown, hope you are doing ok. I’ve lost a much loved pet before and it’s just awful. We are here.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 7 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Thank you both. It still hasn't hit me yet but it is going to get so much worse when it does. I'm trying not to vomit all of my feelings here because I don't want to burn you out. This isn't going to be something I get over quickly or cleanly.

[–] Eagle@aussie.zone 6 points 7 hours ago

Grief is meant to be messy.

This is a safe space, word vomit all you need. We can carry that load for you.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 8 points 15 hours ago

I've been thinking of her all day.

Sending so much love. πŸ«‚

beach finds

some nice shells and tiger shark tooth! The tooth is still razor sharp.

storm clouds

the air was so clear and weather conditions were just right to make the whole bay visible on the horizon, if you enlarge the picture you might be able to see on the horizon

[–] _miss_cellophane_@aussie.zone 3 points 15 hours ago

That shiny shell is stunning!!

Oh dear, the power has gone out. It looks to be a big area.

And now it's back on. Everything seems so bright now!

Stir-fry was my staple meal when I moved out of home, I'd have it probably 4-5 times a week. Very affordable on student benefits - lots of rice and veg, a little bit of meat.

[–] LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 1 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

What's your go-to sauce? And fresh or frozen vegetables?

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 2 points 14 hours ago

Always fresh vegetables. The sauce I usually do is a base of stock powder and tapioca flour (which could be substituted with cornflour) mixed with water. I'll pretty much always add a little bit of soy, sesame oil and fresh ginger. Then a selection of oyster sauce, sweet chilli sauce or cooking wine depending on what I feel like, plus extra ingredients to give specific flavours - like the black pepper and honey tonight.

Undercut is back babbbeee...last time I got one we went into lockdown shortly after. Hoping it wasn't causal. Because having that hair off my neck is so so sweet

[–] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 5 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I've got an undercut, and an overcut. I shave my head.

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Clippers or razor?

Been a razor man for nearly 20 years

There is nothing quite like a shorn cranium, I assure you.

[–] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 1 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Clippers with no guard. I let it grow out in winter because it's warm. Clippers is pretty easy / lazy. I imagine razor would be once I worked out the technique, but I'm yet to. I've got a double edge razor for the face for job interviews.

The power failure was a good chance for me to test the UPS I just bought. I identified two problems. The first was that I'd plugged the NBN box into it, but not the actual modem. So that was at least an easy fix.

The second problem was that the UPS is set to have a really loud intermittent beep when it runs on battery backup. Mr Woof evacuated to the backyard to avoid it and it was slowly driving me batty too. I did some research and found that it could be turned off, but you have to download software and connect it to the computer. So I downloaded the software, installed and connected everything, and it wouldn't open the interface. I could get to the menu options but the one I needed was greyed out. Eventually I decided it might be because I'm using Windows 11 and it only listed up to 10 in its compatibility list. Running in compatibility mode didn't work, so I dug out my old laptop, downloaded the program onto that and it worked perfectly. So the infernal beeps have now been silenced and I have uninterupted internet available.

Uni is starting again next week. Time to reclaim my academic dignity and hopefully complete my last year of studying for a while with flying colours. It's time for me to trust myself and not be so scared to the point of avoidance.

[–] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

When I went back I told myself that I didn't care if I failed, as long as I tried my best.

It helped.

[–] LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

This is a great mindset, thanks! I'm just going to try my best and see where it takes me. I don't think I've been trying my best in my way too many years of schooling.

Tbh until I went back to school I hadn't tried hard since I was 15.

It takes the pressure off when you just do your best. At least then you can live with the outcome.

Check out the radar - nice big stawm heading into Melton. link

EDIT: fixed link

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Your link isn't working for me but I can confirm it's cracking over here.

And I love it.

Look at that, it missed Ballarat again. The rain doesn't seem to like us much at the moment, the storms are all going around.

Missed my area as well. Happens almost every time.

[–] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 3 points 19 hours ago

Dog is refusing a walk which usually means his barometer is detecting a storm.

1.5 hours on the phone with Microsoft tech support for moving my domain email provider to Microsoft, and still not resolved!

Had to figure out how to access my domain name servers again and add β€œTXT” files to it, came flooding back to me from dealing with all this crap setting things up the first time.

Ran into an issue exporting inbox from old provider to new, and then the tech support guy had another appointment and had to go. Talk about leaving your customer in the lurch. I think I know how to fix but that was all the IT problems I could handle for one afternoon, will revisit when I’m bored enough on the weekend.

If it makes you feel any better they treat their enterprise level partners the same way.

It'll take me a while to get home but:

CHEEEEERS!

Edit:

I need some help. I don't use my phone on public transport. But I also wear sunglasses.

What the fuck am I supposed to look at because most others are on their phone then there's me trying to sleep but looking like I'm deatg staring whoever I happen to be facing.

When I used to commute it was all books or the free newspaper (or the not free papers in the morning). Of course at that time I had the trendy little flip phone whose main selling point was polyphonic ring tones, so the entertainment value of that was pretty limited.

Take a book. Or download Pokémon go 😜

In my grade prep report it said I liked to stare out of the window and daydream.

Some things never change.

Pakige arrived. Mostly ok, but a couple of returns have been organised. Now I also have a $28 voucher that needs to be spent in 3 days, and only $8 worth sitting in my cart. Time to do some quality impulse buying - and worst case scenario I buy something to get to the $40 minimum spend and then return it. Ah, Temu. How you make any money is beyond me.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 4 points 21 hours ago

Rightyho, I have now ordered 2 oil bottles for the kitchen, a couple of tops, a couple of flat sheets and the frost protection covers that were already in my cart. $56 total. Hopefully the sheets are at least halfway decent. I could do with some more, but don't want to spend too much because Mr Woof keeps tearing them.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 8 points 1 day ago

I have now been to the doctor for a checkup, been poked, prodded and bled, plus I have 2 more appointments to make for more specialised prodding. My special 'welcome to 50 years' celebration 🀣.

The doctor seemed nice, and much more interested than the previous one I went to. Plus it was fully bulk billed, and I have some insurance that will give me a discount for having regular checkups so it's worth it from a financial perspective alone.
