I absolutely hate the redesign, having the new tab button in the middle makes no sense, the corner is way easier to tap, having the individual tabs be taller makes them take up more space while looking worse and the tab selector takes up the whole screen, so I can't see the tab I was on.

For context, this is what it was like before:

Settings >> about firefox >> tap the logo 5 times to unlock advanced settings >> go back to settings >> secret settings >> disable Tab Manager Enhancements

Edit: Same steps work in forks like Ironfox

You're amazing!! Quick and easy fix

Thank goodness, the new UI is super laggy and unoptimized for large numbers if tabs and it was stuttering every time I opened it.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

They don't follow "prefers reduced motion" either in the new design.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 days ago

Holy fuck that works, thank you so much

You don't happen know how to disable the new "+" button in toolbar that opens new tab?

[–] Sprinks@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Same steps but disable Composable Toolbar.

Edit: It might be a different setting, but its for sure one of the setting options in that secret setting menu

You are the MVP!

[–] brb@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

It was Composable Toolbar, you are a beast

[–] cybernihongo@reddthat.com 2 points 3 days ago

I wasn't looking to revert the tab view, but still, I learned something new today and that matters. Thank you.

[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

That is amazing. Thanks for the tip! I hated the new tabs design.

You're a hero.

I feel like I'm the only one who likes this new design now

[–] catdog@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's always the same story with UX change. Everyone hates it, barely anyone is able to look past the period of getting used to it.

The number of people who actually run Pale Moon on Windows XP themed machines today, is extremely limited. Back in the day, people were furious about Australia.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 days ago

I'm fine with UI changes in general, but this has genuine issues

[–] second@feddit.uk 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You're not, I like it too.

The aspect ratio of the thumbnails is closer to the aspect ratio of the screen, which makes sense to me.

Also until you reopen each tab, you don't get a mini screenshot of it. I like the mini screenshots so I can see what the page was without having to read its title.

No one is gonna talk about the horse meat?

On the same topic, can someone tell Mozilla what "edge to edge" is

[–] BruisedMoose@piefed.social 5 points 3 days ago

I'm using Fennec and while I don't totally HATE the new UI, it will take so e getting used to.

BUT ... that's really hard to do when it seems to be switching back and forth between the two randomly.

[–] GoldenDeLorean@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Mine looks like this after the update.

[–] jdr@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 days ago

I have the same and also hate it

[–] XLE@piefed.social 3 points 4 days ago

Are you using some kind of custom DPI hack? Otherwise, it sounds like Mozilla introduced a new bug while working on Firefox... Not great, but at least then it wasn't intentional.

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Huh, I have the new menus but not new tabs. Maybe this is some kind of a/b testing?

[–] 31ank@ani.social 5 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Settings -> Tabs -> List

Or something like that

[–] Sprinks@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

Settings >> about firefox >> tap the logo 5 times to unlock advanced settings >> go back to settings >> secret settings >> disable Tab Manager Enhancements

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That changes them to this:

Which isn't much better

[–] celeste@feddit.org 2 points 3 days ago

I actually like the list view, it's very functional though I still haven't gotten used to the new three dots menu

[–] TheFlopster@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

I also switched to List view because the new tabs took up so much visual space.

[–] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Probably not what you are looking for, but switch to Waterfox.

[–] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Yeah they got the old List and Grid style menu

[–] JayGray91@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago

And if anyone using waterfox likes the new change, they hid it in the secret settings.

Just look for a couple comments here or web search how to activate it.

[–] JoshuaFalken@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Turning off automatic updates was a good decision. I agree, why would anyone want to see less tabs on the selector screen.

[–] albbi@piefed.ca 3 points 4 days ago

I've been using Waterfox on mobile and really enjoying the tabs style. Easy drop in replacement for Firefox and works with Mozilla sync.
