The inability to read a room is astounding.

I'm not Pokémon lore expert (my knowledge comes from Pokémon Go) but my surface level understanding of the Pokémon "vibe" is that it's mostly progressive as fuck (utopian society, androgynous Team Rocket representatives etc) and is the one I'd the least suitable lore bases for a MAGA-meme.

I suppose their audience doesn't give a fuck about that though so it makes it somewhat immaterial.

It's also about capturing animals and having them fight against other animals on your behalf.

Fighting is a part of that, but it's more about testing how well you've trained and showing how well you work together, plus what the trainer has learned to face different kinds of battles. I believe there are non-fighting competitions in some of the games/shows.

There's nothing really progressive about Pokemon lore.

It's pretty bog-standard anime stuff. Yeah, do good and help others but that's not exactly progressive.

Andro characters are extremely common in anime. There's also nothing progressive about that.

Yeah, do good and help others

At this point, in the US political window, that's extremely progressive.

Do... Do good? Like.. With a missile?

There is a fan theory that the reason you play as a child in the game is because many of the adults in the world of Pokémon have died due to war. It’s also a theory that tries to explain why you see so many child-age characters too.

That's really interesting, thank you (or not!!) for the rabbit hole!

Heck look at the story of bw/bw2, it was a literal warning of whats happening in the usa today.

I mean, there is the "gotta catch 'em all" mentality.
