Is it odd to see a fox roaming suburban streets? Was on a night walk and saw one in a neighbourβs front yard. Thought it was a cat at first but that was a big cat with a very bushy tail. I was startled.

I see them a lot round the springy cemetery.
Not odd at all. I saw one in my front yard just last week in Thornbury. And the tramways depot in Preston has quite a few, as does Merri Creek. As of about 2006, the industrial part of Footscrazy had the highest density of red foxes in the world - about 6 breeding pairs per hectare. Dunno if that's still true. All over pretty much all the suburbs - and a good reason to keep your cat inside. They are a major problem in the Melbourne cemetery in Parkville - they dig holes under the headstones which then fall over and break. If there's rats or rubbish or ground nesting birds/marsupials around, there will be foxes there to eat them. I've seen a fox run out of the underground parking garage at my workplace - in Richmond. Dunno how it got in as the place is thoroughly wire netted and the roller doors are in contact with the ground when closed. But foxes are clever.
Iβm in north east suburbs. I see fox all the time.
I swear driving home on public holidays I can see who has been drinking. Lane swerving and constant tapping of the brakes to maintain the correct speed.
Driving (sober) in the outer south east surburbs this morning at 2am was eye-opening. Could definitely tell which cars were acting sober.
I can see train travellers who have been drinking. Standing there swaying.
What a glorious day of doing fuck all
A few more hours of chill then back to it.
The peach salad in question

10/10
That looks great. I added nectarine to my salad tonight, it was definitely a good addition.
Thanks !
very nice
I think I need new cookbooks, I am so bored
Thank you!
Went to see the St Kilda penguins with boy I've been seeing. It was wonderful, and he is wonderful. We have a lot of things in common but also enough separate things. I know it's still very early days and it might be too good to be true, but I am enjoying myself, wrapped. I just can't believe it.
Its so nice to hear that β€οΈ
this is lovely π₯°
I've decided I really need to get serious about getting fitter & losing weight. I've spent a small fortune on exercise equipment, but can't find anywhere that sells either motivation or enthusiasm. If you know a place that has any in stock please let me know.
There have been a lot of improvements in home treadmill design since I last looked at them and there are a lot available for a much cheaper price than I was expecting. I'm pushing the upper weight limit on a lot of them at the moment though, so I've spent a bit more on something that is sturdier. It can be used under a desk or on it's own and can go up to 16km/h, although I'm not sure I can go up to 16km/h. It also folds up quite small when not being used.
I also ordered a bunch of heavy things - weights and bars that can be used for dumbell/barbell/kettlebell type exercises. I think I'll find it easier to keep motivated by doing more frequent short stints than trying to do a regular full gym routine. That approach seems to have worked better for my with chores and things like that so π€
Whoa. This is great. You're gonna get a lot of useless/useful advice so here's mine.....
Walking pad - Start slow. Surprisingly it takes a little practice and balance to start off but it's super fun and when you get the hang of it you can give yourself challenges. Don't go hard because it's not sustainable. Tuck a hand towel into your pants because you will sweat. Pets will be amused.
Weights - Again start with small ones. Pick an exercise and do 8 Γ 3 sets. Lots on YouTube to choose from. Don't go hard because it's not sustainable.
Diet - Calories in, calories out. Use a tdee calculator to find your Total Daily Energy Expenditure. Don't give up any food that you're not prepared to give up for life because it's not sustainable.
We ladies gotta stick together and encourage each other. Also it's not too late to start up no sugar for the rest of lentish. You'll feel amazing afterwards. (Yeah I did say not to give up any food but it's sugar and it's only for a short amount of time and it's a kick start).
You've got this!
Thank you for this!
You're welcome.
I'm umming and ahhhing about a $2,200 bike. I haven't had a nice bike in years. With the fuel prices and other reasons it's a good idea, but it's a lot of money to me.
I figure I'll add my 2 cents:
I don't have any advice to give about what exercises you should do, but I do have an anecdote about food.
I've learned to stop eating when I'm full. I don't make myself finish something just because it's there. I can always go back later if I'm still hungry.
This is how I've managed to lose and keep weight off consistently while getting to enjoy the food I like. That being said, most of my meals are reasonably healthy.
I think my sensor for 'full' is faulty, I'm pretty much always hungry at the moment. I'm blaming it on dodgy hormones.
Wegovy reset that for me last year. I went on it for about six months to kick start weight loss as I was always hungry. I lost the first 15kg with it, then wound back and lost another 15kg via continued calorie counting. I didn't go above the 1.0 dose which is the strongest of the cheaper options ($250/4 shots taken weekly). All the low doses are $250.
I too would like to know where the motivation shop is. Willing to sell a kidney.
Having an accountability partner or partners can help! I have some weights and have been running outside when the weather is okay, but I am struggling with consistency. Will be happy to help motivate you :)
There's also a video I came across called "you can do pushups, my friend" which has a routine to get to proper pushups I've been wanting to follow for a while. My excuse is that I tell myself I don't have time, when I can make time.
I think I have a touch of demand avoidance, too much accountability is counter-productive for me. I start to resist when I feel like I'm being pressured to do something, even when that pressure if coming from my and my own decisions. I'm starting to work out ways of navigating around my own silly psychological quirks, but it does make routines and consistency a problem for me. I have found breaking things down into small chunks so I can't use the 'don't have time' type excuses helps, and allowing myself choices about when I do something also helps. This approach has worked well with housework and similar things, hopefully I can successfully apply it to exercise too.
fellow demand avoider here. thank you for the tip :)
i think it can work well with exercise, you can do this!!!
edit: timers have worked really well with running. i was doing couch 2 5k and having to only jog for a minute before being able to walk again was great
I thought a timer was a good idea, but I almost ended up buying a full set of hourglasses and a fancy version that uses coloured water. Managed to pull myself back to just a standard, sensible timer, but it was a close call!
Sending out the deets for the partay...
I'm surely going to miss someone so if you don't get an invite speak up and you'll get one :)
Hoy hoy for a me and my +1.
They make me work on a public holiday and don't turn the air con in the office on π₯²

I'm going to Daiso, does anyone need anything?
Little cutters for encutifying food please

Oooh! New toys, thank you πΊ
it comes with cute little toothpicks too π±
Missed my squats yesterday due to, well, cbf and an evening commitment, so am doubling up today. Though the rest day did my legs some good!
@YarraByte@aussie.zone on a bit of a delay last night, sorry @TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone.
No problems. Only made the thread because the late night crew may have needed it. Fine by me to do a replacement.
could it have been delayed by the daylight saving change in America?
I'm just having issues with my Proxmox server atm.
Naps. Naps and more naps.

Downloading iCloud into a folder. They make it obnoxious to do manually but I donβt want to use the app. At some point I have to do this for everything and then get it onto a storage hard drive containing only photos.
Unrelated. @StudChud@aussie.zone I saw a pet grooming job that may or may not be near you and pays alright (as a casual), would you like me to DM it? They want grooming experience and you to know the fancy haircuts but also asked about experience in customer service, so thought thereβs no harm applying if youβre interested
