Community Rules

You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Avoid AI generated content.

Avoid misinformation.

Avoid incomprehensible posts.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Tbf, they officially removed the "dont be evil" line from their motto a while back

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 100 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

That's also like out from some Kojima Production.

What? You removed "Don't be evil" as your motto?

Nice observation Mr. Snake! We do everything for profit, and it turns out good deeds are not exactly profitable. They even tried to punish us for our good deeds like when combated misinformation, only for those suits wanting to stop our efforts with AI. They've literally killed people by slowing down AI development, thus making its discoveries postponed!

What are you talking about?

Anyone who opposes AI development in any way is a murderer! You're a murderer, snake! If it takes evil to stop evil, then let that be! PREPARE TO DIE! jumps into Google Metal Gear

[–] MJKee9@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

When is this game coming out? Sounds sick!

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I unfortunately don't have access to the Metal Gear franchise, but I'm planning on making a 2D Metal Gear clone, but with twin stick controls, and also vampires - yes, I played Boktai, but this time you're also a vampire.

Strong senator Armstrong vibes.

Meta Gear already exists...

[–] cobysev@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

That's Google for ya! Their motto was, "Don't be evil." That was the two original founders' motto, which was silently changed sometime after the company was sold.

[–] PurpleClouds@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

.. and replaced it with “do the right thing”.

One of them feels more like an order than a motto.

Also, every AI company logo looks like a butthole. Kojima did that too, right?

Johnny Sasaki. All the way down.

Now I wanna make an art series of each logo pasted onto the back end of a cat generated by each of their generative image models.

[–] Haaveilija@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Mistral's "Le Chat" has entered the chat

Gemini is twins. Janus was two faced. Wait, I was supposed to begin with actually.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 8 points 2 days ago

Jaaaaaanus!

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Is this why these people just ramble on when they talk? They just spew nonsense technobabble constantly and talk like pseudo intellectuals. Again like every Kojima story too much exposition.

[–] red_tomato@lemmy.world 78 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Naming the fat guy ”Fatman” is peak Kojima genius

[–] Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world 30 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Hey now, he was a fat guy who also loved bombs.

If this plot is written by Hideo Kojima, it's no wonder I have no idea what's going on all the time.

[–] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago
[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Holy shit, that is hilarious. It actually fits so well. Just one small problem. In Kojima games the good guy usually wins, right?

[–] Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

They usually win against the obvious villain, only for it to be revealed the protagonist was an unwitting patsy for an even worse villain the entire time.

[–] notsosure@sh.itjust.works 23 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That’s why I use Le Chat from Mistral.
