Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org

If they would allow pharmacies to sell Cannabis without seeing a doctor.

It still is difficult to buy Cannabis in Germany. No wonder some go to the black market.

Sell prerolled joints in pharmacies and you will see significant reduce in crime.

Maybe they should ask Portugal.

"We have tried nothing and are all out of ideas"

Imagine you either had to brew beer yourself (but max 12 beers a month!) or join a club that does it for you, but the club has to follow 1000 stupid rules and requires you to hire 10 lawyers to follow every single one of them.

You only can buy beer legally in a few pharmacies and need so see a doctor before. But hey the doctors appointment can legally be made over video call with some shady websites. Then you need to wait for shipment of beer 3-7 days, because most pharmacies only ship the cans and dont sell them over the counter.

Its only allowed to carry 4 cans of beer at a time and not around (complex matrix of institutions/places/zones and a distance relative to them) and you can still loose your drivers license of you have drank 2 beers 2 days ago.

I think we need to do a study that needs to involve all of CDU and CSU where they have to go through that exact procedure for some years every time they want to grab a beer and then see if there is a black market formed. Also we are gonna wire tap their phones for that reason and use a software from a war criminal that is called "Essence of Evil" to do just that. Oh and we also change the rules every few months slightly, just to confuse everyone.

It is perfectly legal to sew your own clothes or build your own car. Why is everybody buying clothes and cars from dealerships?

It remains a mystery.

However, in the eyes of respondents the law is not a suitable instrument to combat organized crime (82 percent of Berlin respondents say so) and the black market (69 percent of Berlin respondents say so). Here the capital’s police officers are roughly in line with their colleagues from other federal states. β€œThe KCanG is not an instrument for combating organized crime. It is a law regulating consumption,” trade unionist Teichert also makes clear.

Yeah. It's extremely hard to get a "Cannabis Social Club" (nonprofit cannabis growing association, and the original name is indeed in English) approved, many federal states have none or single digit numbers - with a size limitation of 500 members per club. So for most people who want to consume cannabis, the alternatives are growing it yourself or buying on the black market.

As far as I know, Bavaria has none. My local newspaper recently ran a full-page article concluding that the official goal seems to financially destroy everyone who tries to start a club. The permissions are granted and then, after money was invested, material purchased and everything is set up, they close the clubs down again through abuse of zoning regulations or environemntal laws.

Yes bavaria has none and the government even is proud of it. And in the next sentence they frame it as a failiure of the legalisation

[–] Captain_Baka@feddit.org 4 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

they frame it as a failiure of the legalisation

Technically that's true, but not in the sense they suggest in this sentence. It should have been legalized in a way, where there's a lot less up to no leverage for the shit Bavaria is doing.

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 4 hours ago

The legalization was missing step 2. That didnt happen because the FDP cut the life of the last administration

Yeah. It's extremely hard to get a "Cannabis Social Club" (nonprofit cannabis growing association, and the original name is indeed in English) approved

The with work doesn't end there. Some clubs had to close again after approval because the requirements are high and they're scrutinized often / more closely than others.

So for most people who want to consume cannabis, the alternatives are growing it yourself or buying on the black market.

Or ordering via shady online prescription platforms. At least until they take that away from us again.

It definitely feels like they're trying really hard to not offer good alternatives to the black market. The current situation is better than before but still not ideal..

People warned about that before introduction. Are we ready to acknowledge the level of corruption and bad intentions that that implies?

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 1 points 2 hours ago

Most parties are corrupt, what else is new? In the first place, the Greens were the only party involved who actually wanted to legalize cannabis, the other parties were either lukewarm or hostile.

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 hours ago

You forgot you can also get it in pharmacies
