Congrats to PT Anderson! I was excited to see his latest regardless of Leo being in it. I had a good time.

It really wasn't that great of a movie. Very forgettable.
I did like the part about the immigrants, though. But like... It was such a boring movie, overall.
I disagree. I found it enthralling. I wouldn't have been able to take my eyes off the screen, but my wife went in to labor right in the middle.
I can't speak to the actual quality of the film because I haven't seen it, but in general, when I go to the theater, I want to see a spectacle.
Watching the trailers for One Battle After Another my reaction was "Yeah, I can wait for streaming..." I just didn't see anything that screamed "see this in the biggest theater you can!"
You clearly don't know Paul Thomas Anderson's work.
I'm vaguely aware, but yeah, he hasn't been a director that interests me. I have Boogie Nights sitting around here somewhere that I really should watch one of these days but it just hasn't grabbed me.
He kind of strikes me as a Richard Linklater style director, which is fine, just not something worth going to the theater for (didn't see Blue Moon either).
If it looks like you won't lose anything seeing it at home, it's hard to get out and justify the theater experience anymore.
Speaking of Richard Linklater, I went back and re-watched Slacker not long ago and it was a tough re-watch. I remember loving it when it first came out, but it did not age well.
I disagree. I felt like it was the first movie I’d seen in a while that was actually enhanced by the theater experience.
Which one? One Battle After Another?
Like I say, I can't speak to the film, just the vibe I got from the trailers.
Yes, One Battle After Another. The final chase especially is made for the big screen in a pleasantly old fashioned way. No 3D bullshit, just exceptional cinematography that looks even better when it’s huge.
Fun fact, Chase Infinity who plays Leos daughter in the movie is turning 26 in Mai and is therefore undatable for Leo. He'll soon have to resort to dating actresses that would be his on screen grandkids. Nonetheless in Hollywood he's considered someone who likes them old.
Both really good and entertaining movies.
I’m so glad that neither is some cheesy biopic.
Sinners should have won but four Oscars is some comfort:
In the best picture category, “One Battle After Another” defeated “Sinners” — which won four Oscars, including lead actor and original screenplay — “Hamnet,” “Sentimental Value,” “The Secret Agent,” “Bugonia,” “Marty Supreme,” “Frankenstein,” “F1” and “Train Dreams.”
Both were excellent films, but I think One Battle After Another ultimately pulled it all together better, which is why Paul Thomas Anderson also won best director.
I would have been happy with either winning, but One Battle for best picture and Michael B Jordan for Actor is the best split you could ask for.
Sinners should have also won best visual effects for all the dual Smoke and Stack scenes. Avatar looked great, but wasn't dramatically different from the first two.
Ironically, I feel that's what this missed... nothing pulled it together. Insanely boring ending with nothing to think about after the credits rolled.
I enjoyed the first half a lot, then it just kind of... Ended and died.
eh I liked OBAA more than Sinners.
Didn't finish watching Sinners. It seemed overdone from the beginning. Silk and Smoke? C'mon.
Did you at least get to the twist?
Yes. It's when we stopped.
Silk...?
Stack I guess. Like I said it didn't vibe with me.
You missed out. It was actually pretty good.
Neither film should have won a bunch of awards, though.
OBAA was visually stunning. The chase scene along the highway with the low angle camera was amazing. The visuals during the city raid also deserve the big screen.
