General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Police say they are investigating chants of "death to the IDF [Israel Defense Forces]" led by Bobby Vylan, of the punk duo Bob Vylan, at an Al Quds Day protest in central London.

Videos on social media appeared to show Vylan, whose real name is Pascal Robinson-Foster, making a speech at the demonstration before chanting "death, death to the IDF" as the crowd joined in.

Last year, police decided not to bring criminal charges after the group's Glastonbury 2025 performance when Vylan led crowds in chants of "death, death to the IDF".

In a post on X, the Met said: "We are aware of chanting made by a speaker at the Al Quds protest and will be investigating. "We recognise the concern footage and chanting like this causes, particularly with London's Jewish communities.

He was onstage with members of London's Jewish communities, who were also protesting the genocide in Gaza.

Police say they are investigating which crimes they can make up to justify suppression of those they dislike.

How is saying "death to the IDF" a crime? What would happen if they said "death to the Russian military"?

It's not a crime that was already decided last time. They're simply doing lawfare and wasting taxpayer money to harass anti-genocide sentiment.

Zero investigation of British IDF soldiers massacaring Palestinians so far by the way.

It is a little-known fact* that, in addition to its high-profile operations in the Middle East, the IDF operates community patrols around Golders Green and Stamford Hill.

You can't even wish death to terror forces if they are "Western". What a joke.

What difference are they expecting compared to the last time they investigated the exact same chant? Maybe because it is a different police force, they are wanting another pop at it? Surely that just a waste of resources.

I don't like death chants, but damn it was really catchy!
