I was there. It was fucking horrible. I only survived because I was buying cocaine in the parking lot. I was only in town because I was attending a funeral for my ex boyfriend. I donated blood that afternoon, and flew back to New York that night.

I’ll never fucking forget it

I'm so sorry you had to experience that. I wasn't there, but I think about that night a lot. I go to a lot of shows and festivals, and it's therapeutic to be able to take drugs and dance in the dark with my friends. The idea of a tragedy happening during such a joyful time is just unspeakable. I'm glad you're safe and I wish you all the healing in the world.

Thank you. All I wanted to do is go out and celebrate my ex-boyfriend’s life, and i got so much more death instead. It took a long time for me to come to terms with it.

After 10 years, it’s good to get some closure on this. But with Parliament House also demolished, a lot of of the LGBTQ life blood in Orlando is now gone. And that makes me very sad.

This is how I found out. Thanks for posting. I'm glad something is finally moving forward there as a permanent memorial, it's been a bit of a mess.

Orlando was once home for me, I hope one day I'm legally able to visit again.

Context: to make way for a permanent memorial. Florida’s rough, but this isn’t attempting to erasing the event.

Obligatory note: People had reported the eventual shooter to authorities and nothing was done.
