Slurp NK (North Korea)

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 3 points 6 days ago

At first glance my mind always replaces the r with a c and I think we’re talking about the 1998 classic SLC Punk.

[–] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

I read it like it sounds. Like "Sputnik", but Slrpnk.

[–] pomegranatefern@sh.itjust.works 39 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I keep reading it as "slurp-ink," personally.

[–] Schmuppes@lemmy.today 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

For me, it's "Slurpnik". You'll have to ask Vlad or Igor what it means, I guess.

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Same, I keep imagining it as some variation on ‘beatnik’.

[–] bryndos@fedia.io 2 points 1 week ago

"slurp ink motherfucker" sounds like what an octopus says when you piss it off.

Is it the same people that pronounce SQL as "sequel"?

[–] baronvonj@piefed.social 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Wait, do you actually say the letters every time? Just think of how many syllables you've wasted in aggregate over the years!

[–] rockerface@lemmy.cafe 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I usually just don't talk, that saves even more syllables

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

When it's obviously "school?"

[–] aeiou@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

you mean it's not 'squeal'?

[–] rockerface@lemmy.cafe 1 points 1 week ago

I think you mean "ass quail"

[–] cobysev@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I spent 20 years working as a sys admin, moving to new offices around the globe every few years. No matter which country I worked in, every single sys admin I've ever worked with always pronounced it "sequel." I've never met anyone in real life who spelled out the letters when speaking it.

Someone on here the other day said it's actually squirrel

Squeeeeel for me

[–] thisfro@slrpnk.net 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My first Fediverse instance!

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

I keep accidentally seeing “shipwreck.”

[–] Jimbabwe@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Doesn’t work because only vowels are removed. For slurp neck to work it’d need to be slrpnck. You know, with a C!

tsk.

Shoddy memeing from someone named @NickwithaC@lemmy.world

[–] Sunsofold@lemmings.world 7 points 1 week ago

You mean it's not SLR punk, in reference to the cameras?

[–] brown567@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

It's always been "slur punk" for me XD

[–] GoldAxolotl@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] Kenny2999@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Would listen.

[–] bryndos@fedia.io 5 points 1 week ago

I've been reading it as Slur Punk. Still not as bad as reading CNT-FAI as Cunt Fay.

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago
[–] 30p87@feddit.org 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I always read it as "s-l-r-p- oh fuck it, whatever, what a fucking random ass name is that"

[–] Klear@quokk.au 2 points 1 week ago

Oh! That's what it means!

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

It's always been an otomotopoea (really fucked the spelling on that) to me. Like, the sound of someone sliding a can across the floor and into a bell. Sluuuuurrrrrrrrrr pink
